Introduction: Hello, I am Kutay Karatas.
I have been playing chess for 18 years and teaching for 6 years. I used to live in Turkey and I managed to win lots of tournaments there. I have been selected for the national youth chess team 2 times. After I moved to Buffalo, I won the Niagara Falls Chess Tournament U2100 section. Also, I became 3rd in the Marchand Open and won the U2200 section. I am currently working in Buffalo Chess Association as a chess instructor. My USCF is 2138 but I will definitely become a master after playing more tournaments this year.

Coach is very well versed in chess. He engages my 9 year old well. He is always willing to spend extra time to finish a lesson or a game. He clearly explains every chess strategy in a way my 9 year old can easily understand.
Overall I highly recommend Coach Kutay!

With a peak rating of 2250 USCF, Kutay is the best chess player I have had the pleasure of meeting. I took 5 lessons with Kutay before I had to start back at school but in those 5 lessons my understanding of the game of chess increased far more than I thought possible. I went from around 1000 elo on chess.com to 1400 with just 5 lessons!!
In our lessons he taught me very solid openings for white and black, taught me key endgame principles and helped me with middlegame calculation.
He has a tremendous ability to take very complex topics such as navigating a messy middlegame or converting a slight advantage in the endgame and making them simple to understand. He is very well versed in all aspects of the game, especially the opening. His opening repertoire is so vast that no matter what you play against him he will have prepped a line for it.
Kutay is also very patient and really cares about helping you learn. I never once felt that he was not happy to be teaching or that he was getting frustrated with me if I took too long to solve a puzzle.
I cannot recommend this man enough. He is a great player, coach and person. If you want to improve your chess game, he is your man.

Kutay has been working with my 5-year-old and achieved incredible results after just three lessons. However, my 5-year-old is still a toddler and sometimes does not stick around for the entire lesson. Kutay is a professional and we shift to coaching me. The improvements that he has made in just 90 minutes time with me are incredible. I am looking forward to the heights that both my son and I can make.

If your looking for a good chess coach, this is the one you want. He is patient and understanding , which is what you want. My skill level increased pretty fast with this guy!

I took several lessons with Kutay, I can't recommend him enough. Kutay is a excellent player and coach and was able to help me improve my play in a couple sessions. Well worth your money and time!
