FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Tutoring is an hourly fee. Editing is a per page fee. (See below for more details).
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For editing services, I typically evaluate the manuscript at no cost to the client to determine the scope of work needed and what the cost will be. Then I consult with the customer over the phone to talk about their expectations/needs/desires for the project. I'm happy to meet in person for an initial discussion after I'm hired or to receive the manuscript digitally or if they prefer, as a hard copy. Depending on the needs of the customer I can give extensive line edits/notes as well as a comprehensive document with developmental editing notes. I ask for half the fee at the beginning of the project and half the fee upon delivery of the finished edit. My process for writing assignments is fairly similar. I have experience editing fiction and non-fiction manuscripts as well as industry white papers, grant proposals, academic papers and writing and editing for health care and mental health care websites, the economic development field, non-profits, etc.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Masters degree in journalism from Columbia University. I've taken classes in social media and in how to use various publishing software programs such as InDesign. I'm a member of the New York Writers Workshop which offers classes in fiction and non-fiction writing and I belong to a fiction writing workshop with other published authors.
