Hi, I'm Marion. I'm an experienced English teacher offering reasonably priced private 1 to 1 classes online. Most of my students are busy professionals who need to perfect their English for work. You'll learn to power through those meetings using the right words at the right time. We can work on presentation skills, interviewing, even deciphering emails!
I also work with beginners and people who just want to be able to communicate better. We can work on the basics: grammar, sentence structure, using simple phrases to have better converstations. You will be able to speak English more naturally and with more confidence in a short time.
My classes are designed to meet your individual needs and goals. Areas we can work on include conversation, comprehension, grammar, reading, writing, and pronunciation.
I teach beginners, intermediates, and advanced students. I am happy to help with resumes, cover letters, job interview prep, and presentations.
For fluent and native speakers I also offer advanced writing tutorials, and can help with personal statements for graduate programs and other writing tasks.
I offer all my students a free consultation. This can include a mini-lesson, so you can decide if I am the right teacher for you with no obligation.

Marion is my ESL teacher since July 2016.
I knew I made the right choice choosing her When we first emailed each other. She didn't want to meet me unprepared, so she asked questions that could help her understand my language level and my learning goals. (That shows me that she cares)
The lessons are fun, easy going and she always tries to challenge me as much as possible.

I like my ESLlessons with Marion. She taught me not only the language but also the American culture, which I'm very interested in. Besides that, she is such a nice person that talking with her is always enjoyable.

I arrived in NYC last September and at that time I wasn’t very confident about my English skills
I found Marion Stein and she really helped me improve my conversation vocabulary and felt a different after the first couple of weeks
Always available and flexible.
Definitely worth it.

Trending topic conversations are the best! Grammar detail oriented and professionalism are highlights too. Always available to help me out with any doubt with my resume or cover letters. Great recommendations on American English books, tv shows, and podcasts. I am learning a lot about NY and its culture while I am improving my English.

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I offer competitive rates for classes. Please contact me directly if you'd like to see a rate chart. I offer a discount to long-term students. Because I work for myself, there are no "extra" or "administrative" fees.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We exchange emails or texts and then meet for a free consultation. Potential students can ask lots of questions at the consultation. It's okay to have a friend with you if you are a beginner, but it isn't usually necessary. There is no obligation. If you decide I am the right teacher for you, we can schedule a lesson.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
After I graduated from university, I started tutoring at LaGuardia Community College -- one of the most linguistically diverse schools in the world. More than half of my students were second language learners. After completing my master's, I started teaching there. I have also taught at the Community College of Vermont, Queens College, and in New York City public high schools.
I learned Spanish when I was an adult, so I know how difficult it is to learn a second language. I don't speak French, Italian, or Portuguese but I know a little about the grammatical structure and some vocabulary in those languages. While I don't speak any Asian languages, I know a little about how they differ from English in structure.
I have additional professional experience as a teacher and writer. I also work with native English speakers as a writing coach.
