- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a trained as a sound engineer with over 15 years of experience working at various recording studios around the world. I have also worked as property manager and construction manager. I have a certificate in computer building, repairs and installation form NYCCT. You have to read a lot about new technology and communicate with other people in your field to share notes, you learn about a lot of potential problems before they happen to you but also about a lot of new techniques and accessories to make your work more efficient & better . We already had a background & education in audio & video installation but it never hurts to take a few classes at your local college to learn how to install or operate new technology so that you are not making it up as you go along.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
We have been involved in sound installation and related fields for over 15 years, one day a friend of Andre called & asked him if he could help to fix her TV which was slowly easing out of her wall after she had a handyman mount it for her. She had paid this man $150 & he had mounted her TV to the wall without hitting any studs & it was slowly tearing through the sheetrock going downs and he had just tie wrapped the wires on the outside. It was then we realized that there was demand & a need for our expertise in the field of residential tv & media installation
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Recently installed 65 inch Samsung over a Gas Fireplace, was going to turn down the job because client had no idea where the gas line was but after investigating realized the customer had actually painted over a side panel that allowed access to the inside and around unit. Used camera to locate gas and exhaust pipe and ended up installing tv & a Sonos Playbar (Soundbar) above fireplace and was able to hide the cable box behind the Television and out of sight utilizing an IR receiver. The job ended up taking over 3 hours because we still had to proceed with caution around the exhaust pipe. It was a $450 job in Manhattan including the cost of a Heavy Duty Tilted Mount, High Speed HDMI cable, Heavy Duty Optical Cable, Extended Coaxial Cable, And Heavy Duty extension cord with Built in Surge Protector.
