Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Hi everyone, my name is Yi (It pronounces like the letter “E”, and means “Art” in Chinese). I am a native mandarin speaker born and raised in China, as well as a proud first generation immigrant to the USA. I came to Miami 7 years and 11 days ago with a scholarship. After graduating with a Master’s degree in Engineering, I worked my way up in male dominated industries: Supply Chain and IT. From elementary school through college, I have placed first in several speech and writing competitions. In 2012, I was awarded the China National Scholarship, which is only awarded to the top 0.2% students in the nation. During my time in school, I had been voluntarily tutoring friends and family members. Even though I pursued a different career path, I always possessed a passion for teaching. Helping my students realize their potential and achieve their goals makes me so happy! I learned English in the US, and I have been learning Spanish to be able to communicate with my mother-in-law. Being a students myself, I understand the challenges of learning a new language. To me, the most important things are to make the learning experience applicable, rewarding, and most important, fun! I firmly believe that everyone's learning style is different. I personally assess each student, and create unique materials and content tailored for them. When I am not working, I enjoy singing, dancing, shooting my recurve bow, and playing instruments. I love integrating art into my classes.

So lucky to have found Yi as my daughter’s mandarin teacher. She is an excellent communicator. We as parents can’t ask for a better tutor.

I thought it would be impossible to learn a difficult language like Mandarin, but Yi made it easy! She is so talented at Mandarin and English, and is so pleasant and fun to work with. She is super smart and I feel like a better person having been her student.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I donate 30% of my income as a mandarin tutor to the elementary and middle school my parents went. They grew up in the extreme poverty. Education changed their life. I am willing to tutor students from underserved families at a discounted price, or on a voluntarily basis.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I usually start by getting to know each other. I would like to know their goal, frequency of taking lessons, preferable teaching method, topics they would like to cover, and mostly important, assess their level of proficiency.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I was the top student in Mandarin class since elementary school. My parents encouraged me to help my classmates, friends and their friends’ kids by tutoring them after school. When I went to college, I was elected the Co-chair of the College Volunteers Association. I voluntarily tutored children from underserved families.
