Pamela and I only had one lesson to prepare me for an audition and she did great! She could give me advices I didn’t hear yet which helped me to improve my singing on that performance immediately! She is a very nice and humble person!Sep 22, 2019Verified
I have not been working with Pamela for long, so ask me again in a couple of months and I'll probably change to 5 stars! So far I enjoy my lessons and the exercises we do have already expanded my range. My high E used to be just a squeak but now I can really sing it after only a few lessons, and I even feel more confident with my lower range - something that has always been a struggle. I look forward to seeing what is in store with her guidance. I fully recommend Miss Pamela!Dec 14, 2014VerifiedPamela Thomas Vocal Studio - Manhattan, NY's reply

I had an absolutely fantastic lesson with Pamela today, and I am so glad to be able to work with her! I'm a very out of practice singer (I haven't sung anything in about a decade) and I wanted to begin lessons again to get my voice back in shape. Pamela gave me an excellent variety of vocal exercises to begin with, and I went from feeling very discouraged to very excited to be singing again. She was pleasant and encouraging, along with being extremely knowledgeable. I very much look forward to our future lessons, and I highly recommend her, especially for someone like me who has newly returned to, or new to singing.Apr 8, 2014VerifiedPamela Thomas Vocal Studio - Manhattan, NY's reply
Thank you, Ariel, for your great review! I'm very happy that you have decided to start singing again because you certainly have the voice! Looking forward to working with you as you discover how far you can go!
Singing Lessons (for adults)
Pamela is amazing. She has been my voice teacher for while now, and I always look forward to our lessons. She is kind, honest, and truly sees the talent in potential in all who come to her. I'm a actress by training and new to the singing world, and she has opened my eyes to how fun voice training is and how everyone can sing if they have the will and passion (and the right teacher, which she certainly is).Jul 9, 2017VerifiedPamela Thomas Vocal Studio - Manhattan, NY's reply
Thank you, Samantha, for your kind words! You are a joy to teach!

I chose Ms. Thomas because of her background in Opera. I sing mostly musical theatre but anyone who’s had a career in opera knows vocal stamina! Her private lessons, as well as her group classes inspire confidence & create a positive learning environment!! All ages & vocal types are welcome & everyone benefits!! I am very grateful that I found such an instructor & thank Thumbtack!!Sep 12, 2019
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I charge $70/hour. I also will do a 45 minute lesson for $60. I generally do not do 30 minute lessons because I cannot cover everything we need to in that time (go through exercises and repertoire).
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a Bachelor of Music in Voice from Stetson University and a Masters of Music in Voice from Manhattan School of Music. I also have 30+ years experience singing at New York City Opera and other venues. In fact, I continue to study voice with a wonderful teacher, Mr. David Jones. David is my teaching mentor as well. He holds two Teaching Seminars on teaching voice and the Swedish-Italian technique each year in NYC that I attend. He actually does these seminars all over the U.S. and in Europe. I continue to study, practice and work on my voice which gives me great joy. If you don't use it, you lose it!
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I always loved singing. I started studying piano at age 6 (my older brother studied piano and I followed in his footsteps). I studied through High School - but then I found my voice and starred in the musicals. Once I did that, I had to sing! And since I come from a family of teachers, it was just a natural extension for me to teach.
