I'm a professional singer/teacher residing in New York City with degrees from Indiana State University School of Music, and New York University with a specialization in Classical Art Song, Musical Theatre Repertoire, and Vocal Pedagogy.
As a professional singer myself, I am constantly auditioning on broadway, off-broadway, and for smaller local and regional theater opportunities. I believe that as a teacher I have to continue to be in the field and learning as the industry continues to change. I have to be aware of the opportunities in this business. I have been hired by professional opera and musical theatre companies, in additional to large choral works as a soloist, and have a private studio in Washington Heights.
Prior to NYC I taught middle school choir for 200+ students, of which I received teacher of the year in 2012. I also still hold a valid teaching license in the state of Indiana.

Finding Shelley as a vocal coach was an answered prayer for me! If you are looking for a vocal coach, look no further! When it comes to the voice, Shelley has it covered. She is very knowledgeable and an amazing resource for all things voice-related. After our first lesson together, I felt like I had known Shelley forever. I would like to express how comfortable l feel during my lessons with Shelley. I also feel completely safe when it comes to sharing my voice and she has helped me come out of my shell. The lessons are tailored to fit my specific goals and unique voice. I look forward to our lessons every week!
After reading Shelley's reviews, I knew I was going to be in the right hands. Shelley is super intentional and honest with you from the very beginning. She will create a game plan for you and make your goals a priority. I have had 8 or 9 lessons with Shelley and I have learned so much! I love my lessons with Shelley! She’s super professional, punctual and responsive. But most importantly, she makes very acute observations, breaks down every technique/ tool so I can pick up faster, and makes every lesson super fun. I’m extremely happy to found a teacher like her. In just 6-7 weeks, I see a huge improvement in myself. And I look forward to the lesson each week! Can’t recommend her enough, wherever you are in your singing journey.

I love working with Shelley! I met with three other vocal teachers before choosing to continue to work with her because of how safe and understood she made me feel. I'm on my 5th lesson? with Shelley and I always look forward to our working session together.
I started vocal lessons in the first place to start to get over my serious PTSD of singing in front of others and just learning how to be okay in that space that continues to make me feel so vulnerable.
Honestly, every week has been really challenging for me to just show up and to not be afraid to make weird noises/ sounds during our lessons. Yet, Shelley is constantly reassuring me and affirming me while I sing and try new things with my voice, and I could not have asked for a kinder or warmer individual to guide me on this journey.
She is also so incredibly talented and knowledgeable! I am very much a technical/ visual learner so I love learning about why my voice makes different sounds and/or how my body can make those sounds and Shelley breaks it all down for me. If I can't handle a particular warm-up she will go through it slowly and break it down enough for me to start to get it.
I am by no means an expert in singing! I am definitely as new as you can get when it comes to singing, and yet I can feel and hear my voice change little by little every week. I am so thankful to Shelley for being such an incredible teacher/tutor/singing coach and would highly recommend her lessons wherever you are on your own singing journey!

Shelley is always ready to jump right into lessons and has a knack for getting kids to listen. My son has special needs but she sees his gift and strives develop it all the while making his lesson time informative and fun! I highly recommend her!

Shelley is an excellent voice teacher. As a beginner with no singing experience, she immediately made me feel comfortable. Shelley is very patient and takes the time to thoroughly explain any vocal techniques you might be struggling with. Additionally, she is adaptable and flexible. When I had some last minute audition material to work with, she was more than happy to shift gears and accommodate my needs. As far as the quality of her lessons, Shelley is adept in teaching and singing. Lastly, her lessons are affordable and she is always punctual. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Discounted packages are available at a monthly rate!
Regular Pricing:
60 Min. Voice Lesson =$90.00
45 Min. Voice Lesson =$70.00
30 Min. Voice Lesson = $50.00
* All New Students are asked to submit a 50% deposit prior to their first lesson to reserve the time/space.
CANCELLATION POLICY: All adjustments, rescheduling, and cancellations must be communicated 24 hours in advance in order for the time to be re-opened for other students, and to cancel any room reservations. Failure to give proper notice will result in a charge for the lesson.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
With all my clients it's about it's all about getting to know the instrument ( the voice ) whether you are a beginner, or returning from some time away from lessons. Creating sound, moving air, and finding a sense of ease for the singer.
