His side man did the work. He tore up my concrete sidewalk and steps and the end of my driveway completely replaced them. It turned out beautifully and is commercial grade quality. He was timely and neat and super friendly. He will help me replace the wooden porch stairs tomorrow.

Brian was prompt in coming to my home to survey the work needed to repair leaks in my garage roof prior to sale. He came to do the repair when promised and explained all aspects of the needed work. The work was completed in one day, the work area and debris were cleaned up and one would never know he was there! His pricing was very reasonable. I would recommend him to others and plan to call him for a number of projects in my newly purchased home.

Thomas Renovations repaired my house after a tree fell on it and did quite a bit of damage. He did roof, siding, gutter and window repair. The house looks better than new, the work was outstanding and Jeff is excellent to work with. Not only that, but his pricing was more than reasonable. I highly recommend him to anyone.

Adam was able to work with us on details and pricing. He is very personable and made intelligent suggestions to our ideas and together a plan came together. The craftsmanship of his work is beautiful and we love that he offers a five year guarantee on his work. Adam was able to call in other contractors to assist with other jobs we needed (driveway paving and new porch beams). The timeline was delayed a few times due to unforeseen weather conditions, but we are extremely happy with the end result and would definitely call Widger Landscape andTree again!

Nathaniel Flynn responded to my request for some drywall repair work and I sent him some pictures of some bad cracks on a ceiling which has a brushed 1/2 circle finish - this is not an easy finish to repair and have match. He quoted me a reasonable hourly rate and showed up on time for the appointment. I wanted to see how good of a job he did before I committed to more work. My entire house is torn up and under construction for a renovation and there will be a lot of drywall hanging and finishing to be done in the coming weeks and even months. I'm happy to say I've found somebody who is reliable and does really good work. It's hard to find somebody to do piecemeal work like this, let alone do it well. I can say that I'd recommend him for anyone looking for construction work - but please wait until he finishes my place:-)

Sean repaired failing stucco and re-painted the whole house for a fresh, uniform look. We have received many compliments and a few thanks from neighbors for improving the streets aesthetics. Sean went above and beyond to ensure that water would not enter the house and repaired rotting trim, drip edges, and even sealing roofing over bay windows where needed.

Ed was the quickest in getting a hold of me when I requested a quote in cleaning off my roof with snow and icicles. After getting a few quotes, his was not only the lowest, but Ed did a great job with keeping constant communication with me once I decided to use his company for my roof. He was easy to get a hold of and if he would return a phone call within a matter of minutes. On the day the roof was supposed to get cleared up, he called to let me know when his crew were on their way to my home. His crew were great, they finished the job in a timely manner and did a great job. Throughout the time the crew was at my home, Ed kept in touch and even let me know when his crew were just about done. I would definitely recommend Ed and his company to friends and would use his services again in the future.

Strong winds blew shingles off my roof in several places. With snow and rain in the forecast, I needed my roof repaired in a hurry. Within minutes of answering a few short questions in Thumbtack, I was contacted by G&G Services with a quote. From start to finish the repairs were completed in less than two hours and my roof looks great. I was very impressed! Thank you again G&G Services for a job very well done. I would highly recommend G&G Services and will call them again should the need arise.

These guys are the best! Tim Y. was very responsive, punctual, and willing to go above and beyond. High quality job. They fixed broken concrete on porch, did overlay, and made a step to shorten the distance up to the porch. Asked them to come back to add concrete to face of porch and the response was, "Absolutely!" They drove from a job 92 miles away to do this additional request. If you are looking for a concrete repair or addition, give them a call. I like a quality job and they did just that! Thanks to Tim and Andy!

I had a step repaired. Work looks good. He was upfront that it was a minimal repair to improve safety, and wouldn't be cosmetically perfect. I was satisfied.

These guys did a flawless job and had the best rates I could find. Saved money by shopping around. Home Depot would have been more than double the price.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
  • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
  • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
  • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
  • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
  • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time.
