FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am constantly taking online and in-person workshops. You can have a lot of knowledge, but if you do not practice or get "hands-on" experience, it's not that useful. Photography is a constantly changing art form and needs to always be challenged.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I learned to shoot when I was 12 years old, with a Voightlander Bessa Rangefinder Camera. It was my Dad's and he taught me the basics. Photography became a passionate hobby, but I secretly wished I had chosen it as my first career. After grabbing my camera on my way out the door for my nephew's graduation and working the room with my lens, I realized what a thrilling day I had had, not to mention the results were fabulous. After I turned all the images over to him, he sent a thank you note which sealed my fate. What could be better than working at something I loved, while producing lasting memories for others?
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I would tell a potential customer that not only is a photographer's style and capability important to look for, but what is equally important is that you feel comfortable with that provider. Whether it is an event or a portrait session, the relationship is crucial to obtaining good imagery. I would also advise that the lowest price is not necessarily your best option. Do not compromise on quality, because in the end, you get what you pay for.
