Introduction: Hi! I'm Ms. Jenna, a certified elementary school literacy specialist and former first grade teacher located in New York. I am excited by every opportunity to help a child become an independent and life-long learner! I have created all of my reading and writing resources to be accessible virtually and can meet with your child wherever you are, providing consistency and reliability. I specialize in teaching children how to become confident readers, writers, spellers, and thinkers. Starting from as young as 4 years old, I can help your child develop the foundation they need to become a skilled reader. My approach is grounded in research-based methods that are explicit and systematic in order to help improve your child’s decoding, encoding, fluency, and comprehension skills. Contact me to book a free, no obligation reading screener and consultation to get a better idea of what your child’s reading level is and how I can best support them! About Ms. Jenna I was a first grade teacher in a New York City public school in Chelsea for six years before becoming a reading specialist (grades K-4) in a top rated school district in Westchester, NY. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Childhood and Special Education (grades 1-6) from SUNY Geneseo and a Master’s degree in Literacy (birth-6th grade) from Teachers College at Columbia University. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham, which is a specialized, explicit and multisensory approach to teaching reading through phonics based instruction, and I am currently working towards a two year certification to be a CALT (a certified academic language therapist who specializes in providing dyslexia therapy). Throughout my career, I have had experience teaching children of varying abilities across all elementary grade levels. Private Tutoring Services I specialize in teaching reading, writing, and phonics to children, pre-kindergarten to 6th grade, using explicit and research-based approaches. I tailor my instruction to meet each individual child’s needs, but most importantly, I strive to make learning fun and engaging for young children! I provide all of my clients with a free 30-minute initial consultation to discuss your child’s current levels, learning needs, and learning style in order to ensure I am a good fit for your family. We will work together to establish goals and develop a personalized and targeted plan to strengthen your child’s literacy skills.

Jenna is excellent! If I could give 100 stars, I would. We cannot praise her enough. She helped our 6 year old son progress in reading, writing and pronouncing. He excelled so quickly within a very short period of time under her tutoring. She was patient and so kind to our son. At school, he used to become quite discouraged and would give up on spelling and reading. Jenna used expert techniques that allowed our son to understand how to sound out words and actually comprehend what he read. She uses a multi-sensory approach and wonderful techniques that keep him interested and entertained during his sessions. I was amazed that she was able to accomplish all of this online, as we live states apart. She gave him tools and techniques that really connected with how he needed to learn and now he has the basis to keep up with his classmates. Jenna is an amazing teacher. We feel so blessed to have leaned so much from Jenna. She is an answer to our prayers.

We are so incredibly grateful we found Jenna. My daughter was having a hard time reading and was very behind. Jenna was so organized with her lessons and approach. The progress my daughter made was so amazing her teachers were reaching out to me asking what we were doing. My daughter loves Jenna and loves their time learning together. We tried other tutors and none were able to make the progress like Jenna. We will forever be grateful for her help!

We have had an amazing experience with Jenna for the past few years. She always is prepared with lesson plans that interest my daughter and keep her engaged during the entire session. My daughter looks forward to her weekly sessions and has gained confidence in her reading and writing as Jenna has helped her meet grade level expectations!

Jenna is an amazing tutor. My son needed help to stay on track with his reading because of his dyslexia. She took a comprehensive assessment of where he was in his reading and moved forward with a plan that worked for him. He instantly clicked with her and was excited about tutoring. She made sure he stayed engaged and focused - not an easy feat given his ADHD. We love Jenna!

Jenna came into our lives with a magic wand! Our daughter was not a strong reader and was not very interested in reading. Jenna took her under her wings, supported her and taught her the necessary strategies and skills to master reading in the most supportive manner. My daughter (6 years old at the time) flew through reading levels after working with Jenna and began to love reading! She was reading books voluntarily! I never thought that would happen. We couldn’t be more thankful for Jenna’s skills, love for kids, and kind and patient disposition. We highly recommend her for all children!!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Prices range from $80-$175/session depending on frequency, duration, and the time of day. Contact me for pricing - I provide discounts on my hourly rate when you book three or more sessions per week and if you book during school day hours. I also provide a lower hourly rate per child for group sessions.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I first like to set up a free initial consultation meeting with the family to discuss goals together and ensure that I'd be a good match for the child and family. Then I start with some initial assessments in order to plan next steps towards growth and success.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Bachelor's degree in Childhood and Special Education (grades 1-6) from SUNY Geneseo and a Master’s degree in Literacy (birth-6th grade) from Teachers College at Columbia. I am also trained in Orton-Gillingham. I have 9 years of experience teaching in public schools.
