Greg was very professional and on time. He made the whole process easy and our guests love the food. I will recommend him again and again.Aug 12, 2018Verified
I am really, really sad to write this review. I contracted with Greg to cater a baby shower for about 35 people. He was very responsive to the request on Thumbtack and I thought his menu looked pretty good and safe. He also had a lot of positive reviews! Our baby shower was at noon and Greg was supposed to be there to setup at 11:30am. Unfortunately, Greg didn’t show up until about 12:30. He forgot his phone so he couldn’t answer the numerous calls I started making at 11:45am. He arrived and his reasoning was he was looking EVERYWHERE for gluten-free wraps to make the 5 special order quesadillas (total of 35, but 5 were supposed to be gluten-free.) My cousins were at Costco doing a backup catering run, which I was able to call off before they checked out. (Whew!) I told him he should have called when he was supposedly running all over town looking for gluten-free wraps and I would have told him to skip the GF quesadillas if that means you can be on time! He genuinely apologized profusely, but I had 35 people waiting to eat lunch and I needed him to get to work! It took him about 30-45 minutes to get everything served as his partner/assistant was plating some things and getting things together. Greg pulled me aside after he was finished putting the food out and asked me “what can I do to make it better?” He was definitely flustered and I felt bad. But, what do you say to that? You were late, give me a refund? I had only tried the quesadilla and had fruit salad on my plate, so I hadn’t paid enough attention to the quality yet. At that point, I wanted him gone so I could enjoy my sister’s shower. The food was delivered and people had more to eat than the drinks and dessert I brought myself. All that would have been disappointing and frustrating, but if the food was awesome I would have been “okay” and written a much better review. In the end, the food was mediocre... AT BEST. — The $100 “Domestic & Imported cheese tray garnished with Fresh Fruit and served with Gourmet Crackers” was sliced cheese squares from Gordon Food Service (similar to what I could have bought at Costco.) The crackers were normal circle “big ritz” crackers. I was expecting blocks of cheese for people to cut and serve on more upscale crackers. — The chicken fingers were not good, and looked frozen bought and fried. — The quesadillas were okay, but not crispy (we did NOT have an oven on site, so maybe they would have been better.) I thought it was a cheese quesadilla, but looking at my invoice I guess it was chicken (meaning, it was not noticeable chicken) — The fruit salad looked store bought from somewhere like GFS, but I am not sure. It tasted okay. It was supposed to be “seasonal sliced fresh fruits”. The strawberry & vanilla dips were served in Marzetti containers. — The expensive chilled beef tenderloin was cooked okay, but didn’t look appetizing at all, so I think maybe 3-4 people tried one even though I ordered 35 servings. The bread wasn’t crisp, more like a pre-sliced piece of baguette bread. The horseradish sauce was good. — The caprese skewers were okay, but no salt which would have made them good. (Tomato, basil leaf and mozzarella w/balsamic drizzle) — I asked someone and they said the spinach artichoke dip was pretty good, but the serving crostini weren’t toasted, but the seemingly pre-sliced pieces of baguette. — The chicken & vegetable spring rolls were hardly touched and soggy. Maybe because he couldn’t cook onsite, but maybe he should have told me he couldn’t keep them crispy. They were very uniform, again, assuming he bought them instead of made them. ALL IN ALL, I could have gone to Costco or Gordon Foodservice and gotten most of the samefood and expected mediocre or sub-par food for half the price. I was expecting something far better than mediocre. Maybe he just didn’t prep in time and had to purchase. I hate writing bad reviews, but I was pretty embarrassed about the food at this shower, as everything else as very upscale. So, unfortunately, I can’t recommend Greg for catering. :(Jun 24, 2018VerifiedGreg L.'s reply
Karen, Thank you for expressing your feelings. I don't however agree and I feel that you are basing a lot on assumptions and not facts. I did in fact message you about the difficulty in sourcing the gluten free tortilla wraps. Had you responded back, this whole situation would of been avoided. I was 30 minutes late in arriving and I was flustered and apologetic because these things do not happen to me. Before I left I did pull you aside and asked you how I could take care of the situation. You asked me if all the food was out and I said yes. You then stated that everything was fine. I then asked you how the food was and you told me that you had so far only had a quesadilla and fruit and that they were both good. It would of been far easier to have discussed this in person so any assumptions could be discarded and deal with facts to and resolve any remaining issue. The review above yours is from an event that I did later yesterday after your event. That event was in Indianapolis, 100 miles away and your event was 5 miles away. How can one be five star and another 1 star? I do take great exception to you saying my food is mediocre. The cheese tray you ordered stated that it was cubed cheese. I upgraded it myself to sliced cheese because it displays better. For the price you paid per guests, you could not of expected to get a cheese board with blocks of cheese for your guests to cut them self. The cheese was purchased at Restaurant Depot where most everyone in the industry shops. The cracker were not "big ritz type", they were gourmet party crackers and they come with six different types, you had a selection of each and not all of them were round. The chicken were not frozen and fried. They were hand breaded and the remaining chicken was used in the quesadillas and spring rolls. I baked the chicken fingers because frying them tends to make them hard. The fruit salad was fresh fruit that was cut up by hand by my assistant while I was prepping something else. The fruit dips was left in the container, as you had only contracted for a drop off. I explained to you that everything would come in disposable containers. Everything else that I did when I got there, including using the platters and such I found in the kitchen was above and beyond what I was contracted to do. The crostini that the tenderloin was served on is going to get soft from the juices from the meat. If you would of had service personnel the outcome would of been different. A small amount of everything would of been put out and then replenished as it was eaten. I have never salted my caprese skewers. I think that would be a specific individual taste. The spring rolls were uniform because one person made them all. The wrapper is precut and the ingredients is measured out. Why wouldn't they be uniform? I provided you great food and great customer service with the exception of my arrival time trying to meet your request. On one hand you talk about how everything was upscale but you agreed to everything coming in disposable containers. That is a contradiction in itself. Greg

Barton, Thank you so much!! Greg
Greg was so wonderful. He understood our needs quickly and took care of helping us order the food/drinks. This was for my 97 year old mom's passing celebration...so, Greg was thoughtful and very affordable. He showed up and set up the beautiful table. I was so out of it...that I forgot to get the drinks - tea and lemonade...so, he jumped right in...and went to the store and bought them. Thank you for being a compassionate man...our family enjoyed the food - meatballs were delicious.Jul 3, 2018VerifiedGreg L.'s reply
