FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I have a convenient hourly rate which prevents an enormous up-front investment. I also offer packages. I encourage clients to email or text updates and videos following our sessions. This allows me to keep track of progress, make adjustments to the training plan and determine if a followup appointment is necessary; all at no additional charge.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I first take a history of the issues you are having. I listen carefully to the description of your problems and what methods or techniques you have tried in the past. I also observe the body language of your pet and how he interacts with the various members of your family. And above all, I want everyone to have FUN! Training is so important but it shouldn't be a chore. I will introduce you to marker training and explain why marker training is the most ideal and scientifically sound. I do provide the clickers needed to get started. I will assist in training your dog but my goal is to help train you so we see lasting successful changes that you can maintain alone.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am certified through two organizations. I have been certified with the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers since 2011. I'm listed here: ccpdt.org/dog-owners/how-to-choose-a-dog-trainer/ I achieved my certification with Karen Pryor Academy in 2017. KPA is a comprehensive training program that includes a series of tests combined with a series of workshops. Find me here, too: karenpryoracademy.com/ctp/choose-kpa-ctp/ Both organizations require continuing education to ensure I maintain my skills as an trainer. They also require a signed code of ethics stating I will use "training and behavior modification methods based on accurate scientific research, emphasizing positive relationships between people and dogs and using positive reinforcement-based techniques to the maximum extent possible. I will strive to provide for the safety of clients and animals in training programs and behavior consultations." I've been teaching group classses for over 25 years. I have competed and titled multiple dogs in AKC obedience, agility and herding as well as other organizations. I am a AKC CGC Evaluator. One of my dogs was certified as a therapy dog through Delta Society. I have also worked with a veterinary behaviorist.
