About
My background and time spent as a music teacher allow me to help students at all levels, from first timers to advanced. With beginners, one of the first goals is to play something easy and fun. We specialize in piano, violin, guitar, and voice. Music has three parts, melody, harmony and rhythm. Most folks get a kick out of playing something recognizable, the melody. I often write and record the harmony and rhythm parts, so we have everything necessary to make music. My students at this time range in age from 6 to 86. Age doesn't matter to me.

I really enjoy working with Paul. The lessons fit my learning style and pace very well. He is focused on helping a person become more musical. He is also focused on the positive progress I am making and helping me to work through challenges.

I am an adult student who has been taking piano lessons from Paul for several years. He has never been late or missed a session. He respects that I am in this for personal enjoyment, not profession aspirations. He encourages without criticizing, but will push me to become better week to week. He will point out deficiencies when needed but has a sense of humor about it. He is knowledgeable and musically skilled in his own right. He would be a good choice for both children and adults based on his demeanor.

I have been taking guitar lessons from Paul for over ten years. As a retired teacher, I seek out and appreciate good teaching. Paul knows music and knows how to inspire as well as push when a push is needed. He is always punctual and continually helps me to produce my best work and be the best I can be.He has taught guitar but also worked with me on piano. He is excellent.

My experience with Mr. Hartley has been very good. He definitely knows what he’s talking about, and can give very informative instruction. He is very nice, and is friendly during lessons. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to play a stringed instrument.

I've known Paul for over 20 years. I was his student for 3-4 years back in the early 2000's. I became friends with him through my classical guitar lessons & we have been close ever since. I fell in love with his philosophy for teaching. It is so different (and simple). He asked me what I want to play, then proceeded to take me to that goal on the quickest path possible. He did't tell me I have to do this or that; play scales; learn elementary stuff and then advance from there. He just said "what would you like to learn to do?" Paul's gift is not in teaching people music theory or an instrument... his real and obvious gift is in his ability to "teach people how to learn". Then he simply guides you on your path of study. Paul, without doubt, is "one of a kind"
