Introduction: As someone who was very recently a student himself, I have a closeness and familiarity with the particular brand of confusion that ails confused students that most older professional tutors do not. Contrary to popular belief, however, this confusion isn’t a bad thing - quite the opposite, it is essential to intellectual growth, the sweat of learning. Just as well as I know the feeling of not quite “getting” something, I know the immense joy that comes with overcoming it and excelling as a result. Over my 4 years as an instructor, I’ve seen the wonders that giving children a deep conceptual understanding of the basics, and showing them why everything they learn is exciting and interesting, can do. If given the chance, I believe I could help your child succeed with flying colors in academics and beyond.
The Nobel Laureate Richard Feynman once attributed his groundbreaking insights into the workings of the universe to teaching introductory courses to freshmen and sophomores. The questions these students asked of this new subject were at once brilliant and ignorant, and solidified Feynman’s understanding of what he already knew while also giving him a new perspective on the most basic concepts. My appreciation for teaching is much the same; helping kids understand how things work and watching them grow intellectually not only gives me a tremendous feeling of satisfaction, but also makes me better at tackling far more difficult problems.
