We were lucky, we did not have bed bugs. Shaye was informative and honest. We ended up having him spray our basement and exterior perimeter for ants and spiders. I would definitely recommend Kreshco pest control. We will use them again if the need arises. Thanks Shaye!!

We own a home that backs up to the woods and were having major problems with bugs. Hillcrest Pest Control came out and suggested a quarterly plan to control the problem. We now can enjoy our deck without big black ants ruining the day. Highly recommand them! No bugs in or out.

I called Jessie on Friday because of bed bugs. I had had called Orkin the previous Sunday because Saturday night I saw a bug. I was scheduled for a free Orkin consultation on Monday. The Orkin rep called me three times and we agreed he would come one hour earlier. He never came and called two hours after the scheduled time to reschedule. I was desperate so I rescheduled for Thursday. The rep, Shawn, came as scheduled and thoroughly searched my home. I only had evidence of bed bugs in two bedrooms. He quoted me a price and I would have paid then but he didn't have his credit card machine. Friday morning, Shawn called and told me I would have to wait until June 7th because Orkin does not work on weekends. I told Shawn I could not wait almost two weeks. Plus this meant I had to sleep on the sofa for two weeks. I searched Thumbtack and within 15 minutes I had an email from Jessie Agnew. Jessie quoted me a whole house eradication, not just two bedrooms. He was less money and he could come out the next morning. My house was treated and so far no signing of bugs! I was very pleased with the customer service, the explanation of treatment and future prevention, and the actually treatment itself. Jessie is scheduled to return next Saturday to make sure things are still bug-free. I would highly recommend 4Sure Pest Control to anyone. My advice is to give small businesses a chance: the service is better, they are more flexible in terms of scheduling, and the price is better than the larger businesses.

We were HORRIFIED to discover that our son's room was infested with bed bugs!!! What was even more frightening was the level of the infestation! My husband came across Veteran Pest Solutions via his web research. John, the owner, came the very next day! A leading competitor I had called wasn't able to come until the following week! John informed us what prep work was necessary for him to inspect the home so we were ready upon his arrival. Not only was John on time, but, he was prepared to treat our home that very day upon our consent! It was a nightmare of an experience for us and a HUGE inconvenience but John made the ordeal as painless as possible. He always took our calls (believe me there were plenty) and put our fears to rest. After 3 applications, we are now bed bug free! We highly recommend Veteran Pest Solutions! We found John to be prompt, honest, fair and trustworthy! Good Luck and "Don't let the bed bugs bite!"

The technician Chris was very flexible with scheduling a time to treat my home due to the fact that I work swing shifts. He accommodated me by doing a same day appointment. I was very impressed by the fact that he was very knowledgeable of all pest and put my mind at ease that he was confident that he could eradicate my bed bug problem. I have never needed an exterminator in the past and have a fear of bugs. Chris was very patient with me and took the time to answer all my questions. He talked me through how to care for my linens, curtains, and clothing to kill any bugs that may have latched on and educated me on reinfestations prevention. He was very meticulous and did not rush the job. Making sure he treated all areas in my home. He gave every space the attention it needed. The company's prices were competitive and the technician was polite, professional, patient, and knowledgeable. I would use their service again for any future pest problems and would recommend it to anyone with a pest problem. Thank you Chris for giving me back my piece of mind.

I have had Hoban Pest Control coming out to spray the inside and outside of my house with pesticides for 2 years. Since having them come out I never see bugs inside my house and I rarely see any around the outside of the house. All of the technicians have been very courteous and knowledgeable about insects. The best part is that the price stays consistent year over year as long as you never take a year off. I would highly recommend using Hoban Pest Control.

Shawn helped me tame my ladybug problem well. He was very efficient, offering various methods of reducing the ladybug population in my house suggesting ways to prevent future intrusions. He responded to my call right away, and was punctual, polite, and fast. I will definitely call him again for any bug problem I may encounter.

Discovered bed bugs in my luggage. It's assumed we picked these up while traveling. They responded with a call less than an hour and came the next day. Personable and resolved the situation post haste.

After calling around to get a few quotes, we hired a cheaper company to treat or house for bed bugs. They took a week to come out after advertising and scheduling next day service. We've never had bed bugs (or any other pest problem) do so I didn't really know what to expect. They did not seem professional, were in and out with no instruction or follow up directions, and did not do a thourough treatment. After 2 weeks we noticed bed bug droppings, and when I called to get a follow-up treatment they wanted an additional $100 for another visit even though they advertised guaranteed results which included no cost followup treatments... I was so frustrated and wanted them gonem, we decided to just hire NEO Integrated Pest Control because after talking to Jordan, he seemed much more knowledgeable and punctual. Came out the next day, and did a thorough treatment along with waking us through the signs and preventative steps to ensure they were gone! He even called back with follow up instructions and as a check up twice in the next two weeks, to ensure we were rid of these nasty things. After our experience, my advise is to anyone with a similar issue is don't skimp to save a few $, it's not worth the risk. Just call a professional and get it taken care of properly, bed bugs are gross and the longer you wait the harder they are to get rid of. They came in new, discrete unmarked trucks, were thourough, knowledgeable and made sure the problem was resolved. I'm still a bit embarrassed about this, so I won't be leaving my name, but I can say from experience these guys will do the job right the first time.

    About

Thermal Bed Bug Solutions is a superior, effective solution to eliminate bed bug infestations. This non-chemical, non-toxic approach penetrates wall surfaces, mattresses and other hard to reach locations to kill bed bugs. In return by applying heat evenly throughout a structure, we are able to kill bed bugs wherever they are hiding, something many other treatments cannot achieve in a single treatment. We will kill all of the growth stages of the bed bug including the eggs. This means that oftentimes Thermal Bed Bug Solutions can eradicate the entire bed bug population in a single treatment.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How do you check for bed bugs?

If you are concerned you have a bed bug infestation, look for physical signs of their presence. Bed bugs love to hide in small, dark spaces and typically come out to feed (generally on human blood) after dark — although they will come out in daylight if hungry enough. The Environmental Protection Agency states that indications of an infestation can include seeing shed exoskeletons of bed bugs, rusty spots on your bedding (which are either bug droppings or bloodstains), live bed bugs, bed bug egg casings, a sweet and musty odor (if the infestation is severe), and evidence of bites on your skin.

To spot bed bugs, look in and along mattress seams and bedding, in curtain and furniture folds, inside cracks or crevices in the walls, behind picture frames and mirrors, under loose wallpaper seams, on recently used luggage or backpacks, inside electronics, and inside clothing or cluttered areas such as closets. If you see signs of bed bugs, be careful not to disturb them too much as you don’t want them scattering to other parts of your house.

How long does a bed bug treatment last?

Bed bug extermination can last forever as long as the treatment killed all the bed bugs (and their eggs) and if new bed bugs are not transported into the location. Factors that can affect the outcome are how severe the infestation is and whether all bed bug sources were properly identified and treated. When working with a pest control professional, the EPA recommends you check and call references; ask if they offer both chemical and non-chemical treatment options, if they recommend both encasements and interceptors, and if they offer two or more service visits and follow-up. Bed bugs are tiny (adults are roughly the size of an apple seed) and can hide anywhere a credit card can slide into. They squeeze into cracks in walls, behind electrical outlet sockets, in bedding, and in other dark places. Learn how to prepare your home for a bed bug treatment for the best outcomes. Michigan State University shares some examples of possible reasons that a bed bug extermination is not 100 percent effective:

    • Not all sources (aka hiding places) of the bed bugs were identified during initial inspection.
    • Not all sources of bed bugs were treated.
    • The insecticides used were not effective or, in the case of heat treatment, there was insufficient contact time.
    • Infested items such as bedding or other materials were reintroduced into a cleaned area.

How much does it cost to kill bed bugs?

The cost of bed bug extermination depends primarily on how widespread the pest infestation is and how many rooms need to be treated. Other factors that can affect bed bug extermination costs are the amount of clutter in the location, additional furniture that needs to be treated, and construction of the home. Pest management professionals often have rates for room treatments, which can vary based on these factors. As an example, a pest management company treating a 10-by-15-foot room with light infestation might charge clients about $250, while the same size room with a heavy infestation and large amounts of clutter might cost the clients $300-$400. Clutter and heavier bed bug populations mean more product and longer labor time for the workers. Rates will vary from company to company, and from region to region, but the national average bed bug extermination cost is $320-$400. Bed bug heat treatments are an alternative way to exterminate these pests. Heat treatments are typically charged per square foot and tend to cost more than chemical or non-chemical spray solutions. Although effective, they are not usually recommended for occupied spaces, as the extreme temperatures can damage televisions, window dressings and other home furnishings.

What is the most effective way to get rid of bed bugs?

The EPA recommends integrated pest management as the most effective way to get rid of bed bugs. Integrated pest management (IPM) can be carried out by a pest management professional safely and swiftly. The professional will assess the level of infestation in your home or building. The pro will determine the sources of the bed bugs: whether they are hiding in one location, are occupying multiple locations in one room, or have set up camp in multiple locations throughout the house. Based on the severity of the infestation, IPM can include thoroughly cleaning the area using containment protocols (safely packing infested bedding and other items into plastic to be disinfected), the appropriate pesticide treatment, and the necessary follow-up to eliminate any new hatching eggs. The EPA recommends chemical treatments (when safely applied) because “although bed bugs may sometimes be controlled by non-chemical means alone, this approach is often very difficult, potentially less effective, and usually more resource intensive.” Use caution if you attempt to use pesticides yourself. Carefully follow directions and know that some bed bugs have developed resistance to pesticides. Pesticides that are licensed only for use by professionals are known to be stronger and should be applied with the proper tools and techniques.
