Introduction: One of, if not the greatest satisfaction in life, is drawn from a genuine desire to actively help another to succeed in any endeavor. I have been teaching golf since 1992. Even after all of these years, my sincere love for helping golfers to reach their potential continues to grow. Although, these days lessons can look very different. No longer am I restricted to the driving range, putting green, short game area, or the golf course for 9-hole playing lessons. Send me video of your golf swing and I can provide detailed analysis. I am available to schedule a live lesson via Skype, or your preferred method, including over the phone while we are simultaneously looking at your wonderful swing videos. No matter how old you are; no matter what your prior experience with the sport entails; no matter if you are extremely athletic or somewhat deficient in that department; no matter if you are male or female; no matter if you are an absolute golf addict or not quite convinced that this game is worthy of a commitment; you can expect to be treated with kindness, respect, and complete professionalism. How wonderful it is to be part of a process in which I have a front row seat from which I can observe my students change and develop new and improved habits which will serve them for a lifetime! You better believe that I am stickler for the pre-swing fundamentals. As a poor grip, bad posture, incorrect alignment, (just to name a few), are the root cause of so much of the flaws in golf swings, you can expect a full check-up in this department. This approach applies to full swings, or any variation thereof, pitching the ball, chipping, and putting as well. I love challenging my students with dynamic drills to reinforce a specific feel or position on which we are focusing. I enjoy utilizing slow motion video and still photos during and after each lesson to give the students immediate and necessary feedback. Along with the hands-on instruction time, I offer everyone a complete recap of the lesson. These I send via email. My students love these as they are comprehensive and clearly play an important role in the learning process. In essence, with as detailed as these recaps are, you are receiving two lessons for the price of one. Ultimately, I like to think that my job or goal is to teach people to become their own instructor. With the acquisition of knowledge and healthy doses of encouragement and motivation which I provide, you will be better equipped to head to the golf course with enthusiasm and optimism. My guarantee to you is simple. After taking a single golf lesson or series of lessons with me, your confidence and competence will be at an all-time high. Because of my teaching philosophy, students will now be able to self correct when they encounter a little difficulty on the golf course. What a stark contrast this is to the full-blown frustration experienced from beginning to end which is the unfortunate plight of far too many golfers. I am extremely blessed in my job as a golf instructor to have the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people from all walks of life. I can say honestly that my experience teaching others is always exciting. I enjoy hearing about each individual's life, their background, their challenges, and their success stories, and their ultimate goals. Since each individual is unique, I cherish the chance to incorporate a different approach to my instruction. I love to laugh and invariably no matter how seriously we are engaged in training, humor finds its way into our session. One may never love practicing his/her game as much as I do, but I enjoy the prospect of helping others to have some fun and grow to "tolerate" it! Of course, I promote practicing with a specific purpose. So, the likelihood that a change in attitude will occur as it pertains to appropriate practice is very strong! No more just pounding golf balls or ignoring practice altogether!

Golf Lessons

As a relatively new golfer, I reached out to John on Thumbtack inquiring about in person lessons and received a quick response. Within the next 24 hours we had our first lesson scheduled. After our first meeting, it was clear that he is very knowledgeable and passionate about the game of golf. We focused on my setup which included body posture and alignment as well as my grip and takeaway. After our first lesson I can already see and feel a big difference in my swing. John also emailed me a detailed and thorough recap of my lesson as well as other study material that I can use to help practice my new habits and swing. I will be returning to see John again and would recommend him if you are looking to find a quality instructor.

Golf Lessons

I met with John for the 1st time today. I thoroughly enjoyed the lesson. It’s obvious to me that John is very passionate about teaching the game of golf. He focused on making very slight adjustment to my grip and giving me pointers on transitioning my knees and hips towards the hole before starting my downswing. He utilized photos and videos of me practicing what he was explaining as well as showing me what he was talking about. We were one on one with no distractions and I did not hit any golf balls today. He focused on my grip and swing. After one lesson I highly recommend John!!!

Golf Lessons

Today was my first lesson with John and it definitely won’t be my last. Before the lesson, I had expressed to him that I wanted to fix my slice with my driver. Upon arrival John was very friendly and professional, but we didn’t rush into using the driver right away (or at all for that matter). Instead he explained to me that before we could use the biggest club in the bag, we had to make sure I was comfortable with the fundamentals of a golf swing. John instructed me to use a pitching wedge and hit a couple of balls how I normally would while he observed and took pictures and videos. After hitting a few he got straight to work, John recommended small corrections and pointed out changes that needed to be made in order for me to have a good swing. That being said though, John never made me feel inadequate with my swing, he was very supportive and emphasized all the good parts of my swing too! Throughout the lesson he provided helpful, constructive feedback in a way that was easy to understand. As with any adjustments to the golf swing, even small changes take a minute to get used to. John was supportive when I duffed multiple shots after trying what he recommended and encouraged me to keep trying. By the end of the lesson, and with John’s encouraging and positive instruction, I was able to understand how to engage my lower body, start with a correct takeaway, hold the club properly, and position myself over the ball correctly. When all of his teachings were put together, I was hitting straighter shots that were towards their intended target! Lastly, throughout the entire lesson John never ever made me feel pressed for time. It was very obvious that John saw me as a student who he truly wanted to teach, not just someone who was going to give him $40. I felt that I had plenty of time with John and never felt rushed to finish. All in all, a 10/10 lesson and I’m looking forward to learning more from John, a stellar teacher!

Golf Lessons

Had a lesson with John today and he was fantastic. I couldn’t believe how much I learned and corrected in just one lesson. He studies your swing and shows you exactly how to correct it. By the end of the lesson I was hitting the ball so much better. I learned so much about the mechanics of golf and what I should be working on. This information will stick with me for the rest of my life. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Golf Lessons

Very good instructor, detailed and defined. Breaks down your swing and shows how to make the right corrections you need. After one lesson I have a much greater understanding of the game and I did not even hit a golf ball! I have more confidence in my swing when I approach the ball. Looking forward to more lessons with John.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I offer discounts for anyone interested in purchasing a series of lessons. I only charge $40 for the most fun-filled, comprehensive 60 minute lesson you'll ever take. I am not in this purely for monetary gain. My motivation is to serve people.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

It's as simple as reaching out to me for assistance. Whether it's via email, text, or phone call, please don't hesitate to contact me. I am certain that we can work out the details regarding available times and possible locations for lessons. I would love to hear from you. I have an increasing number of students who have been sending me video of their golf swings, short game, and putting stroke. It helps me to know precisely where I need to begin with my instruction. Recently, I have been receiving video from individuals who live out of the area. We've connected via telephone or Skype and reviewed their golf swing based on the forwarded videos. I approach these types of lessons with the same diligence and enthusiasm I exhibit when in person.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Degree in Exercise Science/Kinesiology. Over the twenty-five plus years of teaching/training, I have held every major national fitness certification. My education in the realm of golf far supercedes my experience as a certified personal trainer. Suffice it to say, I have been around golf my entire life. I have much wisdom to impart to my students of all skill levels.
