FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was first introduced to Zumba at the Norman, OK YMCA. I had so much fun and sweated so much (under the zumbalicious instructor, Joan Livesay) that I was reminded of my earlier college years in California of partying, except I wasn't in high heels or uncomfortable clothes. I have always loved to dance, whether at my high school pep rallies, being on the cheer squad, or stepping with my sorority (Delta Sigma Theta) at step shows, but after starting a family with my husband James (Jalen, 6; Josiah, 5; and Jael 1), I lost my groove. I was trying to be the perfect wifey and mommy, and along the way, I put my needs last. Through zumba, I was resuscitated and felt alive and rejuvenated. I lost weight without thinking about it, and gained confidence that made me think differently about life. In addition, I loved the connection that I felt with others (wo/men of all ages, races, cultures, social status) who also shared this experience.
