Worst experience I’ve ever had, this project turned into a nightmare and now I have to hire someone else to fix his mistakes. Dennis was very kind to start with and I did not plan on leaving this review until the way he treated me today after I asked him to make things right. Dennis hired his 18 year old to help him work on my house which was a huge mistake as Dennis did not oversee or supervise his work. Our agreement was fix bad siding and replace 6 windows and 2 sliding glass doors. They installed the windows and repaired/replaced some of the siding. It started where Dennis was 2 hours late to our first appointment. I gave him he benefit of the doubt. I had to constantly supervise Dennis and his kid because when they would repair siding they would leave it either unsanded or wouldn’t paint over it well enough and you could see the white discoloration under the siding very easily which looked terrible. This was stressful to oversee. I started to lose confidence in their ability but stick with it hoping for the best. Dennis then got gray caulking all over my concrete patio which in turn he had to paint part of it white to cover this up. This is only going to chip in the future. This is where the real trouble started: I paid Dennis right before leaving to work so I couldn’t do a final inspection but I trusted him. He stated that he would look it over when it was all done. I cut him a check for the job then off to work I went. I returned to find my brand new sliding glass doors and windows in horrifying condition (see pictures). I could only add a few pictures but I’ve got plenty. I returned to find all 6 windows had a thick layer of rubber ( borderline impossible to remove) caulking all over the side of all 6 windows. It was not only on the vinyl itself it was all over the window frame as well over top of the paint which would be obvious for anyone to see. The caulking was starting to get dirty. Then I discovered that the sliding glass door had caulking caked all over it and it looked like a four year old had gotten into some putty. Then instead of removing insulation foam remains on the door, it was just painted over, even though the paint is not the same color as the door. It was awful. Then I discovered that on three of the windows Dennis had to use mud. This mud was caked onto the wall and never sanded. I would say it was over an inch think compared to the rest of the wall. It was glaringly obvious and looked terrible. Dennis just decided to paint over it and you could see white holes through the paint because the mud was so thick and only painted once. I asked him to replace a soffit and he cut s hold out in some wood and filled all around with caulk which made it look worse then before. Dennis didn’t sand down the mud or texture it like a professional would and should. On top of that in my master bedroom the top of the window is now 34 inches wide and the bottom 35 inches. Then he offered to come back and spent an entire day trying to scrape off the caulk unsuccessfully. He got the big chunks off and left my vinyl scratched. He then told me he was finished and I discovered caulking was still caked on all 6 windows. This was after he told me it was taken care of. I then had to tell him there was caulk all over the vinyl still and he agreed. I don’t know if he can’t see well or if he just didn’t care, I’ll just give him the benefit of the doubt. Having no confidence in him to finish this without damage, I spent two days trying to get this caulking off using chemical solution and scraping away. I felt bad for Dennis so I wanted to help. I also realized he never would do what I asked the first time so I lost all confidence. To his defense Dennis was willing to come back out and make things right and reframe one of the sliding glass doors because the caulking had ruined it and the top of the door looked crooked. I didn’t trust him to do any more work, so I asked him how much time he thought he would need to fix everything. He said “10 hours”. So Dennis stated that fixing these mistakes would take 20 hours. Since I didn’t want him workin on my house I asked him to make amends and just compensate me for the additional 10 hours he would have spent on this job instead of working on the property any more and we would call it good. Because I HAVE to have someone else come fix it now if I want to leave the house in good repair. Dennis became very upset and for the first time I saw his true character. He even swore at me a couple of times. And then claimed that he did work that wasn’t in our agreement. NOT ONE TIME HAD HE MENTIONED THIS BEFORE TODAY. I asked him what he meant and he stated that he replaced siding around the windows and removed rotten fixture. He did this and I appreciate it. However I had no idea he felt that he wasn’t supposed to do that work nor did he ever mention that until today. Now that I asked him for compensation for the extra work that needed to be done he got very angry. I told him I’d take him to small claims court because of the condition the house was left in. Instead Dennis said he would take me to court for the work order for the extra work order that all the sudden felt owed but never mentioned it until today. He stated that he would fill this out when he left. HEY DENNIS THATS FRAUD TO BRING A FALSE DOCUMENT TO COURT. I have a recorded video of this conversation if you think I’m kidding. Very painful difficult experience that has stressed my wife and I out very much. What I was asking for was a 2-300 hundred dollars to have someone fix his work instead of having him spend his time to do it. He then sped off. Instead of cutting his losses, owning his mistakes and helping compensate for damages he created, Dennis chose to pass the buck by not only refusing to compensate me but by also saying he would counter sue me for work he felt he was not compensated for. Even with the house left in this condition. He never mentioned this once until today when he was mad and after swearing at me a couple times. I wish him well but I can’t in good conscience not share this experience. Especially after he refused to compensate me for what he even stated would be 10 more hours of work to fix. Yikes.
