Teaching has been my life's passion! From the time I was in school, I knew that I wanted to teach others the joy of learning in math and science. I am a strong advocate for using education to better one's life. When I work with clients, I find out what they want from tutoring. Each case is individual and needs to be treated as such. Whether you want tutoring to learn concepts or you want to prepare for an exam, I can adjust our tutoring sessions accordingly! What I enjoy the most about my job is helping another person learn! Learning is an unique experience for each person. Finding a way to spark someone's interest in either math or science inspires me to be creative!

Cathy assisted my son with math tutoring and with studying skills during his high school years. We would go to her house. It was always quiet and private feeling. I could stay or leave - it was comfortable either way. She was always on time, prepared (several sharpened pencils at the ready!) and worked very hard with my son. She set goals and expectations with him and held him accountable. It made a HUGE difference for him with school and his understanding of the subject matter, and his grades. Cathy is really good at what she does. She doesn't talk down to the students or over their heads. She meets them where they are and works with them. She gives positive reinforcements for a job well done and in doing so, builds up their self-esteem. When a student doesn't understand the subject, this can really hurt them psychologically - Cathy reversed that process. Cathy also promptly gave receipts for monies paid, which is helpful for our finances. If necessary, she would spent a few extra minutes at the end making sure that my son understood what they were working on and that he understood what was expected of him for the next time. This sometimes led to the next student having to wait a few minutes, but that is all a balancing act. I never felt put out by this if we were the "next student" and appreciated this extra act of care. She was, in general, always very aware and sensitive to start and ending times. We had a great experience!

She is very thorough and answers all of my questions starting with the foundation. I enjoy how she starts from the foundation of understating before she goes into detail because often times that's what I misunderstood in class.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
While I have my Masters in Education, I have been taking classes through the years and will officially start the Masters in Math program in Winter 2015.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
When I was in the second grade, I was helping my peers in reading and math groups. I knew right then and there that I wanted to be a teacher!
What types of customers have you worked with?
The most common jobs I do for clients include: 1. Teaching concepts for a current class. 2. Helping students prepare for an upcoming exam. 3. Teaching concepts to prepare for upcoming classes if there are gaps in understanding.
