FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My language lessons are $25/hour. Translation services have a $40 minimum. Editing depends on the length of the document. I use word count and the amount of time I think I'll need to complete the project to determine my bid.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When teaching, I consider the first lesson to be somewhat of a meet and greet. I learn about my student, and let them know my methods. When teaching French to first time learners, I begin with the sounds of the alphabet, as they differ from English. If my customer thinks we're a good fit, we go on from there.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in French Language and Literature. I've completed graduate studies in French, without thesis. I continue to read French literature, listen to contemporary French music, and write in French. I've translated documents both into French from English, and into English from French. These include letters, birth and death certificates, papers and surveys. The largest translation project that I've completed was a 28 page survey for workers in oncology units. This was from English into French, and commissioned by the Kaiser Center for Health Research. I have more than 20 years of experience editing letters and resumes. I began to edit literary copy four years ago. I've helped bring two novels to completion.
