When I first came to the notion of hiring a Stylist, I had absolutely no idea where the idea came from. I have been interested in fashion from a very young age but as a spectator. I have never thought to choose clothes as a means to express myself. I have always dressed very plain.
On this particular day I was in a late winter depression and felt that nothing would ever be right in my life. I was starting to consider any option for change because I couldn't continue on the same path. I just couldn't. I thought for a bit on what i could do to change my life. The very next thought that followed was "what do I want to change?" The answer came back, "To express myself." More than ever, i want to meet people and when they look back at me, I want them to see me!
Not as simple as it sounds. I have modest looks, and appear dull to most people. I may not be exceptionally talented or smart, but I am most certainly not dull. So if I'm going to express this, how? A Stylist! It came to me at once and I knew I was on to something.
In my case, I didn't have the benefit of a referral. No one could tell me who to go to or where I would be in good hands. No one could direct me on talent. I went to the internet and did a search for Stylists in Portland and found Erin. I looked through her website, admired her artistic logo and resume. I emailed her a page or two on what I was looking for and the challenges I was facing. Erin responded to my challenges with confidence.
Erin has given me new life. I'm in a rush to wear new and different clothes and experience life in a different way. While I've been focused on my exterior presentation, Erin is trying to learn about me. Because, she says, "it's about projecting who you are. Showing your best self, artfully. I need to know more about who you are."
Erin is smart and daring and brings the best out in me. I was planning on a 2 month process but because she has been so helpful and I'm so happy, I'm now planning for a year or more of work with her so that I can explore "self" from 10 different angles. She will tell you more than once I've asked "you aren't going anywhere?" worried that she might move away and i might lose her. I love my stylist. I love my new expression and my new life.
