What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
It is not that complicated. I charge between $150-$200 per full color spread depending on detail. I charge $250-$500 for covers, depending on detail involved. I also negotiate per book if there is a series involved or future potential.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Not enough- I have a BFA and went back to college about 12 yrs. ago to study Digital Media- applications have changed a lot since then, but I can usually teach myself the latest apps.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was offered a book to illustrate by a publisher, more followed.
