Home Remodeling

John Rank helped with remodeling our basement. It was a major job that included changing a large crawl space into a living room. It took about 12 weeks to complete. John is great to work with. He is very organized and keeps everything running smoothly. He is very good at keeping engineers. individual contractors and inspectors coming/going on schedule. He kept us informed of any issues that came up. The quality of work is great - we are so happy with the finished area, especially the built in cabinetry that John did himself. The only thing that could have been better is to have more time to order specific finishes and to be more involved in the design of the entertainment center.

We had the pleasure of working with JDR Builders and John Rank during the last three months of 2014. This reconstruction project was the result of a large oak tree falling into our home resulting in major structural damage to our roof and living room. We were forced to begin the project at the same time the winter rains and inclement weather began here in the NW. John’s crew took exceptional care of our home during the time that the entire roof and an external wall was removed and replaced. They were extremely conscientious of the inconvenience we were experiencing and proceeded with haste to get our home secure and dry. Today the home is not only repaired but JDR has improved the overall quality significantly. John was extremely responsive to any issues that arose, is a man of his word and his team can be trusted with the most complex projects.

My experience with JDR Builders, John Rank specifically, was outstanding. The project was a complete renovation of a dilapidated dry cleaning building into a state compliant OMMD facility. The project was roughly 3 months long, and required tight timeline management both for cost reasons and filing deadlines for the state certification. John's construction experience, and project management experience set him apart from most of the contractors we have worked with in the past. His initial proposal was well thought out. We agreed on a realistic budget. He managed to that budget, and submitted 1 change request for the entire project. He managed the inspectors and the permitting, which was an area of real concern, as the building was old, and the city was waiting for someone to renovate it. His commercial experience really came through during this phase; the city had numerous issues regarding the antiquated electric. At one point we were in jeopardy of being able to even receive power from the street. He was available when I needed questions answered, and he never tried to confuse the issues with technical details. In short he was good to his word start to finish. The quality of work was top notch, with a great deal of finishing work done at his expense. He recognized obvious gaps in our planning, raised the issues to us, and then took action based on our feedback. What went wrong with the project? Nothing. As issues came up, there was always a plan for resolving them, always options for maintaining the budget. I have personally been involved with a dozen projects of this scope and size, and have suffered through all forms of contractor short comings, and bad circumstances. Contractors who are great at construction, but terrible at managing a timeline or budget, or great at managing the budget, but at the expense of a useful product. This was simply a clinic on how to run and delivery a project. Thank you to JDR Builders for your hard work and know how.

We worked with John and his very talented team between August and October to complete an extensive remodel of our home. Despite a whole slew of unexpected (but inevitable) surprises in the original construction of our house John and team worked with us to stay on time and within budget. John's professionalism and work product were exceptional and we will most definitely work with him on future projects. Many thanks to John, team and sub-contractors for helping us create our dream house and to anyone considering a project with JDR please feel free to reach out with questions.
