From start to finish, Derek is incredibly thorough, communicative and kind. This plus competitive pricing and perfectionist level work is a very rare mix in any context. I am so thankful I found him for the job. Through the design process, he offered his input while supporting my goals with the project 100%. He asked questions along the way to confirm we were both on the same page instead of deciding for me, which I greatly appreciated. The final result far exceeded my high expectations. He took A LOT of extra time to figure out fixes for odd hardware I picked out. He returned long after the job was complete and final payment received to offer small adjustments to the gate and tricky hardware to ensure all continues to work perfectly. I highly recommend Black Dog Design + Build to anyone and everyone who is looking for a thoughtful + beautiful (and beautifully precise) job.

Derek Garcia of Black Dog Design + Build did a fantastic job revitalizing the landscaping in the front of our house. His concept was inclusive of every bit of the property (even more than we asked for!) and his knowledge and use of native plants requiring minimal attention and low water usage make for a landscape we will enjoy for years to come. His use of rocks (I had said, "no more rocks!") makes for a great design statement and natural look. We could not be more pleased with the result! Fantastic!

Derek did a complete overhaul of our long-neglected backyard, filled with cement and rotting planter boxes. Derek listened to our list of wants, and was able to create a space we love. In its place, we now have a new flagstone patio, a large cedar planter box and bench, and a yard full of native plants and trees. Highly, highly recommend!

Derek was very patient with my inability too commit to the project. He created beautiful drawings and walked me through the landscape design. We worked through the price, so I could understand the expense. I am very happy with the out come and will use him again for future projects.
