I've had many voice teachers, but few who are in tune with everything from mechanics, to placement, and then most important, how that translates to the stage! I've always been good with mechanics but forget everything when I get on stage. Jesse worked with me so that technique was second nature and I could focus on performing. THANKS JESSE!!!

For the past few years, I have worked with various vocal coaches and Emily is the best of them all. Previously, I only sang pop music with my teachers. Emily expanded my musical horizons. She not only taught me new foundations and introduced me to new genres for me to sing, but she also made me learn and understand my voice better. Actually I was thinking about quitting singing, but Emily gave me the inspiration to sing once again. Anyone who has her for a teacher is extremely lucky.

Phil Greek was an excellent wedding dj. I found him last minute and everything worked flawlessly. have never hired a dj before but using Thumbtack saved our wedding day. Phil has an amazing music library and was able to find all of our songs. He was very flexible with schedule and kept to his word and more than delivered.

Despite my love of music, I could never commit to music lessons. I'd always feel like it drained me of my passion instead of allowing me to hone it. This time around was made a lot easier by having a teacher who is patient, understanding, funny and quite simply just really easy to learn from and with. Sam has a ton of experience with music and is very talented. You'll see this, but all the while she'll strike you as humble. This was very important to me because I feel super vulnerable learning music. On top of her being an excellent teacher personality-wise, she also offers equipment to record, and will teach you the ins-and-outs of GuitarPro so that you can play around with it at home. Beyond Sam though, the space itself, the Portland Guitar Academy, is very comfortable, it's a nice studio with lots of equipment, is easy to access via Trimet(the 10&14 get me there,) and has lots of parking. ((I'm pretty sure there's another location, but I go to the one in Southeast.)) Anyways, if you're looking for a humble, yet talented individual to help you out with guitar, by all means consider Sam. If you'd like to know anything else about my experience, feel free to reach out. Best, Addison

My daughter is 12 years old and absolutely loves working with Judy Malings for her voice lessons. It's been over 1 year now and I've seen incredible singing improvement and on-stage confidence in her. Judy is talented, organized, and truly cares about maximizing the voice sessions for her students benefit. Judy's singing showcase events are very professional and fun. They're a wonderful display for parents to see the amazing progress in their kids singing talent. Judy Malings is a great mentor for music and voice!

Sofia was my vocal teacher for 5 years. During these years she was my giude to develope my knowledge of music and singing and to pushing out my limits. Every lessons were personalized, shaped to my needs challanging in a safe friendly and encouraging athmosphere. Sofia is a talented teacher and artist and experienced and inteligent singer as well. Encouraged by her from just a hobby singing became my life long pession and I was accepted to a huge choir. My selfconfidence matured and I was able to sing for the audience. Kyle has been teaching my 11 year old son piano and music theory. What I really appreciate about Kyle is his ability to really listen and figure out what his students need. My son has a natural ear for music and Kyle has been not only able to successfully motivate my son to practice and enjoy the experience of music, but to also give him the taste of the structure and ideas behind many different genres. Kyle is talented enough to train students on the basics but he goes far beyond the traditional sense of teach music (scales, technical hand positions). He is giving my son the tools to create music in his own way for years to come. Kyle is an amazing value for any student and I'd recommend him to anyone considering improving their musical experience.

From the get-go Deanna's been a great piano teacher to our 5 year old and each week he races through the door to begin the lessons. It's only been a few months but we can sense his growing understanding of how the piano works. Anyone who helps my kid (or anyone's kid) learn to play and love music gets 5 stars.

Duncan is an excellent drum teacher, especially for grade-school and middle-school aged kids. My 11-year-old son thinks Duncan's great, and as learned a variety of rhythms/beats to prepare him for middle-school band as well as playing along with popular songs. Duncan has an easy, friendly style with kids, and jokes with them to get a smile and put them at ease. That said, he is a serious music teacher, and has my son repeat exercises until he can do them correctly. My son has learned an awful lot in the last year and a half, and really looks forward to his weekly drum lessons with Duncan.

Brenda has a true gift teaching piano students. Brenda has abundant knowledge and is able to combine that with a relaxed, joyful personality to make learning something complex that much more enjoyable. She has the ability to teach technique, theory, drills and scales, and yet combine all of that with "fun" music and making a joyful noise!

I found Eleni here on Thumbtack. I have only had a handful of lessons with Eleni so far, but it's going great! She is a kind, caring and knowledgeable teacher. I say this because I feel she really CARES about her students and in invested in their success in learning. She has a deep understanding of the voice and mechanics behind it. She is very easy going and relaxed, which makes her easy to learn from. I can really tell she enjoys music and teaching with all of her soul.

Grace is an outstanding music teacher. My daughter was so excited to try Violin, and Grace was the perfect teacher for her. Grace was extra patient with my daughter, who is blind in one eye, and went out of her way to make my daughter feel comfortable and empowered her to believe she could play violin. She adjusted her lessons accordingly and found perfect ways to communicate complex music and violin lessons to a 7 year old. I highly recommend Grace to anyone looking to expand their musical talents. She is a very talented musician, super smart and an wonderful teacher.

Attila has taught my son in the last 6,5 years. They spent lot of memorable lessons together starting with simple children's songs ending with Blue bossa jazz standard. He is patient and has good sense of humor, wide range of music styles. Thanks to his work my son plays the guitar very well and he is the guitar player of the Big Band at the Music School. Highly recommended teacher.

Helen, was AMAZING, she taught my 6 yr daughter her first piano lesson. We were going to try out a few different teachers, but after meeting her, I have no interest going anywhere else. Thank you for being so friendly and so talented! <3 A few things that were important to me were, 1. She could connect with my 6 year old. 2. That she could teach syllabus. 3. That she has opportunities for her students to perform during the year. She met all three of those. :)

Mr K is experienced and extremely knowledgeable in piano instruction. He brings an emphasis to technique for early learners, including scales and chords that builds a thorough knowledge base for students. As a former piano teacher, I have greatly valued having Mr K instruct my daughters. They have become proficient very quickly and love the piano!

Today was my first day working with Darin, and I must say I was more than impressed by his knowledge in music, skills in pedagogy, and his overall passion and enthusiasm for music and teaching! I could truly sense his excitement for me to learn and how much he cared to provide me with all the resources needed for me to succeed. He is not only an excellent pianist, but truly has incredible talent and knowledge in teaching. He truly spends his time generously in teaching and makes the learning experience so exciting. Darin spend extra time outside of the lesson planning out the lesson and then typing up all the things we covered in the lesson so I would have a summary and point of reference. I highly recommend him and am looking forward to working with him as my teacher!

Holly taught my children how to play the piano. She was very patient, thorough, and knowledgeable. She related so well with my kids that they continue to love playing the piano to this day, and they still say she was the best teacher they’ve ever had.
