Introduction: I am a senior mathematics major at Lewis & Clark and a fluent French speaker. I have three years of mathematics and French tutoring at all ages under my belt, as well as test prep and resume/cover letter writing. I am a past kindergarten teacher as well as a volunteer ESL teacher for refugees. I am very passionate about teaching and finding the best way to suit an individual's needs. I am especially passionate about languages and math. Math doesn't have to be frightening or hard, and I promise I will do everything in my power to make you confident in whatever you do. Additionally, French doesn't have to be hard or scary too. I try my hardest to make these things fun. I think that languages are amazing and fascinating, they are a way to learn an entirely new culture through the eyes of a native, to read literature in the way it was meant to be read, to communicate with whole countries. The possibilities are endless. I know that confidence with foreign languages can be tricky, and I'm here to help as much as you need and as much as I can. I'm invested in your confidence and improvement. I also have experience in NGOs and working abroad (in China and France). This is an investment for a better life!

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

Teaching or working on English with those who speak foreign languages. Working on attitudes toward math, such as math anxiety or frustration about not being able to solve specific problems, working to bridge the gaps in understanding so that a client can be extremely confident and successful with their own skills. Working on knowledge of math, as a whole. Tutoring for understanding (and not to change how the client views math if they already view it in a positive way). Working on the fear of being judged for speaking a foreign language with perceived mistakes, bad accents, etc. And how to let go and just have fun with it. Reviewing resumés and cover letters, editing them and giving suggestions. Editing papers for grammar, spelling, and content.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I think the best thing is to make sure that the provider and customer mesh well. In environments like learning and academia, trust is a huge deal. You are more likely to succeed if you can really trust your relationship and trust that the provider is there to help you without judgement, and there because they really want you to succeed, and don't just want the money.
