As a formal student of Dr. Avellaneda, I can honestly say that not only have I learn and understand the Spanish language, but I learn how to become confident in speaking the language and to confident in myself. I'm a Latina in Lawrence,MA and as a person, I was extremely shy and I would not speak Spanish in any circumstances. The reason for this was that I could not and still cannot roll my Rs, but Dr.Avellaneda took his time and helped me pronounce Spanish words. He was not only my teacher, but he was also my mentor. During seventh grade, I was having difficulty with my mom and he had had spoke to me and helped me through that situation. As a sophomore at Notre Dame Cristo Rey High School, I still missed his teachings because of him, I am well prepared in my Spanish with an A+ because everything I am learning, I have learned in the past thanks to him.

Rino Avellaneda was my Spanish teacher in high school my sophomore and junior year eight years ago in Petaluma, California. I can honestly say Dr. A has made one of the biggest impacts on my life and overall educational experience. Our work was diligent; we were challenged in ways that we had never been challenged before, not only did we get an experience of authentic teaching methods but also an inside look in the Spanish community and culture. I was impressed by his ability to not only teach us Spanish in a way that stuck but also to integrate a way of learning about culture and experiences in life. What would have improved my experience would have been to learn more cultural backgrounds, more in-group activities in the classroom as well as studying under Dr. A my senior year. It was an honor; anyone is lucky for an opportunity and experience such as mine.

Dr. Avellaneda is simply the most brilliant and passionate teacher I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. We met in high school, where he was my Spanish teacher for 2 years. I learned more about Spanish language and the cultures surrounding it than all 3 of my previous years "learning" Spanish combined. I'm now a couple months away from earning my Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and I have not had a professor even come close to Rino in terms multidisciplinary subject mastery and desire to see students succeed. One thing very unique about Rino as a teacher is how well he understands understanding - a concept lost among the majority of educators I have come across. He utilizes ingenious teaching methods that I have never seen throughout my college career which serve as incredibly powerful learning tools. He knows how his student's minds tick and knows exactly how to navigate their neural pathways to land them in a place of deep understanding. Beyond his clear mastery of teaching, the passion about life and learning Dr. Avellaneda brings to the classroom every single day is contagious. I can't imagine how fortunate anyone who does business with him will be since they actually WANT to learn from him - I was forced to take his Spanish classes at a private high school but wow, did it turn out for the better. He encompasses such enthusiasm, excitement, and what seems like infinite knowledge that it is impossible to not be eager to learn from this man. And that is really the best part about him as a teacher: he makes you want to learn. Few teachers are adequate at or let alone even capable of making their students actually want to learn. Rino excels at this every single day. He never runs out of things to say when in conversation. I used to think of him as a walking encyclopedia of all things that have taken place on Earth since Day 1. His seemingly endless knowledge of so many different fields of study is awe-inspiring. The only people who should avoid working with him are those who do not want their minds exercised and eyes opened to the world around them.

Mr. Avellaneda worked with my two children as their Spanish Teacher for 5 years. During this time, he demonstrated his exceptional teaching ability and skills, work ethic, passion and professionalism. He was instrumental in my children’s education in critical areas such as intellectually, socially, and emotionally. His great personality, professionalism and enthusiasm are also attributes that place Mr. Avellaneda on the top of my children’s role model list. His passion for teaching goes beyond the classroom as he has a great, natural ability of involving the parents in the process through encouragement, support and ongoing communication. Mr. Avellaneda has a gift working with all levels of students. His intuitive and kind personality guides students to express and think critically. His classroom management style is executed through his passion, wisdom, and firmness which students respect and appreciate. Mr. Avellaneda is an authentic, gifted educator that brings wisdom, energy and mostly enthusiasm to any educational organization He would only be a tremendous asset to any school system.

Rino Avellaneda taught my Spanish class in high school. Not only did he do an amazing job teaching the content of the class, he also showed that he cared about his students. Dr. Avellaneda was one of, if not the best, teachers I have ever had. I am a student in a teaching credential program now and Dr. Avellaneda was one of my inspirations to become a teacher. I believe that any student would be lucky to have him as a teacher.
