We hired Glenn with the intentions of just getting our flooring upstairs from cheap off white carpet to Bamboo click lock. We were skeptical about his low price but in the end we were extremely satisfied with the out come. We ended up hiring him to do much more. We discovered he was experienced in much more. He completely remodeled our down stairs bathroom/laundry room for a reasonable price including tearing out the stand up shower re plumbing and then tiling, tearing down walls and rebuilding a closet, repositioning the gas line for the dryer, and much more. He is very trust worthy and has good work ethic.

I had a great experience with Yazek. I spoke with him yesterday he met me at 9am this morning and went right to work. Installed 3 bathroom faucets, 1 wall light and a couple smoke detectors. He also replaced some old plumbing stuff under the sink. Very professional and honest. Thank you! Andy

I needed someone to move my toilet so I could have some flooring installed in my bathroom, and also to install a new sink in my kitchen. Stacey is a very experienced handyman, and did great work at a reasonable price. I will definitely hire him again when I need work done.

Daniel was totally responsive to my questions and concerns about the project. He even went above and beyond to help me buy product. When he arrived at the job I asked if he could put flooring down in the bathroom (which we hadn't discussed in the original estimate). He was totally willing to accommodate my needs and charged a more than fair price for the add on service. I would (and will) hire him again in a minute!

Wanted to update the bathroom and change the kitchen to tile. The bathroom was linoleum and your typical tub and insert. Working with Anatolie was a breeze. I travel a lot for work and he did his thing, which was beautiful after the dust settled. It was pretty easy from start to finish. If there were problems or some concerns, Anatolie called. It was a great experience and would highly recommend him for all your tile needs.

Jose and his team are great. We hired him to drywall our entire bathroom, and an interior bedroom wall including some areas of concrete backer board. He also textured and taped everything, as we weren't ready to try this overselves. Not only was his quick to respond, he was available within a week and completed the job in two days. Would absolutely hire Jose again when we plan on doing our next bathroom. Jose was reasonably priced and gave us a competitive bid. Thank you Jose.

Surge was quick to respond and quote the tile work we needed done. His price was competitive and the work started right away. The tile worker, Dmitry, was especially detail-oriented installing tile in our shower and on our floor. He even redid some of the framing work another framer did in order to make sure the tile work looked precise. He communicated via text pictures during the project, which helped us make sure we got what we wanted. We are very happy with our new bathroom!

We had a full 2nd story bath remodel done! Removed an old nasty, corner shower and replaced with a giant drop in soaker tub. Replaced old vanity with new IKEA furniture, installed recessed lights and laid Marmoleum on the floor! They did it all, "start to finish", including plumbing, electrical, assembly and install! The tile work in the shower area is absolutely stunning and their work was very miticulous!! They definately take pride in their work and it shows! We went through a few contractors before deciding and it was the communication that sold me! Chad was detail oriented, present for questions I had and he asked for the job!! They communicated with us every step of the way, no surprises and were very professional and fun! I felt very comfortable with them in my home!! I highly recommend Chad and his crew! I look forward to getting our downstairs bath remodeled very soon! Thanks!!

Gideon is a High Class individual and a true professional. He's also just a super nice guy. I hired him to put down 40 sq ft of tile in my guest bathroom. His price was reasonable, and the quality of his work was exceptional. He was very responsive with my text messages and getting back to me. I would definitely hire him again!

I hired Tim and Matt with New Legacy to update 2 bathrooms, a large remodel on one bathroom and a minor remodel on another. They helped with the design process, came up with a great plan. Helped us with some choices on finishes, and it looks great. They exceeded expectations in every area!!! I own a contracting company myself and in 20 years of working in the Portland area with literally dozens of contractors New Legacy is the best I have worked with. Daily updates were given, timelines exceeded, house kept clean. I could go on and on. If you are contemplating hiring a contractor and have a chance to work with New Legacy do it! They are AWESOME!

Pavlo was professional, on time, and genuinely honest person. He was very good and detail oriented with our kitchen backsplash. Our tiles were very small and he did a great job working with the fine tiles and lining them up perfectly. He worked hard from morning until night and got it perfect. We love the final product.

I hired Oleg to install a tile backsplash and he did a great job overall. There are a few details where things didn't come out as expected (like air bubbles in grout that popped and now need filled in), but overall the quality was very good. Oleg was courteous, clean and got everything done in one day!

Everyone who comes into our house wants to know where we got our flooring. The Tile flooring that we have through most of our house is spectacular. Best of all it didn't break our budget! Can't recommend Eurostyle Corp highly enough for your flooring needs.

Alex is great to work with and my bathroom is beautiful! I highly recommend them. I have also had them redo my electrical panel and meter. Alex is very responsive and communicates well. They were very flexible and helped my vision for my spa like bathroom come together. Vlad, who did most of the work, was very respectful and had excellent craftsmanship. A great crew to work with! My full bathroom remodel took about 5-6 weeks with a couple visits after for a few minor remaining tasks. I’m considering having them do other projects on my fixer upper in the future. I would absolutely refer them to others looking to remodel or even build new.

Brian and his crew remodeled our kitchen and bathroom, we had an idea of what we wanted done, but with Brian's input and design sense, we wound up with a final product that was beyond our expectations. The work was done in a timely manner and right within our budget. We will use Brian again when it is time to remodel the second bathroom.

We chose Atlas Mountain tile for a bathroom remodel. Kareem has a very calm demeanor and was easy to work with. It took a little while to get the project going but once it was under way we were happy with the results.

Ted - Did an awesome job with our two bathroom showers/flooring remodel project. The bathrooms had the old fiberglass showers and the flooring was vinyl. We replaced everything with tile. Ted had great workmanship and cared how the end product looked. He did such a good job that we subsequently had him do some other remodel projects in our house. I am actually hesitant to write this review, as we want to keep Ted to ourselves for future projects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
