Mr. Godfrey completed plumbing and dry wall work in multiple units in an old apartment building. He arrived the next day at the time he said and was able to complete the jobs with two weeks. The quality of work was satisfactory and the price was reasonable. We have already hired him to complete another project.

1. Hanging a address name plate on a brick house 2. hanging a piece of art work that weighed 70 lbs on a interior wall 3. strip and repair caulking seam around base of shower and repair shower door. Mr. Shingleton responded to phone calls and text in a quick manner. Shingleton was polite proffessional , and cleaned up his work area as well as listened to what I the customer wanted and gave great ideas to help with the project. Shingleton was a pleasure doing business with and got the job done right the first time.

John did a great job painting and staining our deck. He painted two bathrooms, a master bedroom, laundry room and up the stairs and upstairs hallway. I was surprised he got it all done in three days. The quality of the job was top notch. I would definitely use him again. He went above my expectations by fixing a huge tear in the seam in our stairway. He also came back to fix two huge walks my husband and I put in our newly painted bedroom. Our headboard was not attached to our bed and when we tried to push it back to the wall it fell and put two huge holes in the wall. John came back without question the very next day to fix it. I highly recommend John!!

Tom recently installed glass wall tiles under my kitchen cabinets. He took great care and made extensive preparations to make sure the tiles lined up properly around the windows and electrical plugs. The job took a little longer than he anticipated due to the complicated nature of the small tiles with pattern that I chose but the results were worth it. I appreciated how he cleaned up after finishing work each day. I would definitely recommend Tom based on this experience with his work.

I would like to congratulate Duane and his colleagues on a truly exceptional job. This was a relatively small job, removing a failing wall and replacing a concrete slap (about 7'x8'ft). Duane visited our house very promptly, and noticed that beyond the problems with the wall/slab that three storm drains were blocked which my have contributed to the underlying problem. He provided a very! detailed and reasonable quote, his team performed the work over a rational time period (given weather constraints) and the result was exceptionally well done. I would like to highlight a few facets of the work which I truly enjoyed: 1: the attention to detail, while the drains were flowing, it wasn't quite fast as expected, he and his team actually worked till they found a chunk of old copper drain pipe deep in the storm drain. 2: the attention to quality, the concrete work was beautifully finished, the drains were resealed after clearing 3: the project was completed in a timely fashion. While not the only project on his books, it was completed well and in a reasonable time frame.. No long waits. Overall I was very happy with Goubeaud and Company's work and I will absolutely hire them again in the future.

Derek and his crew were great, They came in and renovated my hole house in less than a week, They painted and fixed and refinished all walls of my new house. At the end of the project he had to do a special trip to do the final touch ups on my wall, witch he did with a big smile on his face and great attitude as he always has. Home Depot was the one that refer me to him and as you know Them do an extensive back grown and reputation check. I am very glad he took the time to do my home and if I need him I'll call him to come back. Thank you very much and as soon as I get the house clean I'll post pictures of his great work. Thank you guys.

Joe did an excellent job for me in repairing an attic ladder. It was a challenging job that several contractors had turned down or were very expensive. Joe did research on the parts and best way to repair - I really appreciated that. Great customer service, professional. I would definitely use It's a Breeze Contracting again and refer my friends. It's been a year, and our new sidewalk, front porch repair, newly refinished iron railing, and retaining wall are all holding up nicely. Concrete work is just expensive, but the price tag here was better than what most others quoted. We will likely hire Rob again soon for more work.

Dylan and the rest of the team at Williams Plastering are wonderful contractors to work with. He communicated in a timely fashion, had a very detailed proposal, took great care in keeping my house clean during the Plastering and dry wall repair. We had several rooms and ceilings that were damaged from the old roof leaking and after his repairs the rooms look flawless. It looks like a new house! I plan to share his contact info with as many friends as possible.

Prospective Clients: I met Bill through Thumbtack and he was the most willing and reasonably priced contractor I have ever worked with. Bill and his son Zach were: (1) On time, early actually (2) Efficient -- we chatted about a range of subjects while they did their work (3) Did not try to overcharge me for the work that they did -- $50 (Bill's typical fee is $50/hr) to replace a shower door with a rod and curtain. They did it all in roughly an hour including: (a) Analyzing the problem (b) Helping me find the right replacement at the Busy Beaver nearby (c) Removing the old door (d) Putting in the new rod and curtain Not bad for an hour. And all for just $50 (plus parts -- add $50). TL;DR: Hire this man. *****

Travis helped me with a bathroom remodel. I had some shower wall damage. We ended up getting a surround, then added all new fixtures for the bsthroom. We also added other items, such as 2 new basement windows, new screen doors, ridge vent and gutters and down spouts. Travis and his crew are great at what they do. Very professional and went above my expectations. Very impressed with the completed work. I would recommend Travis and his company to everyone. My parents and sister are getting estimates on work they need done as well.

Tom was very professional and knowledgeable about flooring; what was done incorrectly by the former contractor and how to best fix it. He is easy to talk to and offered to begin the job within two days. He called when he said he would, showed up when he said he would and finished in a timely manner. His work is excellent. We plan to hire Tom again when we need more flooring done and even to finish our basement ceiling next year.

We hired Bill to repair (replace with new drywall) sections of our kitchen ceiling after the toilet in the bathroom above leaked. Bill provided an estimated quote and actually came down in price after seeing the damage up front. He was on time, very professional and did an absolutely fantastic job. The sections that were cut out and replaced are barely noticeable and we couldn't be happier. I would highly recommend Bill and Very Handy Contractors!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
