Very professional, quick and efficient. Scott is friendly and a conscientious worker. He washed the deck, then treated it with a special bleach and then used the powerwashing machine. The whole process took around 2 hours and the deck looks great.

Replacement of garbage disposal, kitchen faucet repair, ceramic tile re-glued, upstairs hall light replaced (at the highest peak of the condo), recessed lighting-broken bulbs removed and replaced. David was prompt, knowledgeable, respectful, and professional. The bid he gave me is what he charged, however, I did ask him to do a couple extras not mentioned in the quote. I paid for the extra even though he didn't expect it. Great Handyman! Will definitely use again when necessary!

Leo was awesome. Ordered a bed which came un-assembled. And when I say un-assembled, I mean the bed arrived in a box with a bunch of wood and hardware - it was like someone took a puzzle, dumped it in a box and mailed it to me. When I opened it I freaked! There was no way I was going to even try to tackle this. I kept putting it off and putting it off because I didn't want to deal with putting that thing together. Needless to say I am not mechanically inclined, nor do I claim or care to be. I advertised the project online and Leo responded with the fairest price for the job AND was the most professional person to respond. After the project was finished, in record time and completely perfect I might add, we asked him if he would be interested in completing other projects in our home - we have so many things that need fixed, repaired, installed etc. Bathroom, bedroom, kitchen - you name it. My father is in poor health lately and, although very mechanically inclined, is unable to fix, repair and install things like he used to. Therefore, a lot of things are in disrepair and there exists a lot of uncompleted projects. We decided that we could really use a guy like Leo. We asked him about painting a few rooms. He gave us a fair estimate and we know, if he continues to work for us, will produce nothing but the best! He actually just called to make sure that we receive his estimate. I spoke with him and, again, he is very professional, and he made sure he followed-up with a formal estimate for the painting job we had asked about in a timely fashion. I am glad he called, because, although I kept thinking, "I need to leave Leo a review," I kept being interrupted by other things. So, to sum it up, if you need a professional handyman/jack-of-all-trades, able to fix, install, repair, etc. (and don't be afraid to ask him if he is willing or able to do a certain project - he is forthright and capable, with big jobs or small), don't just consider Leo, HIRE him already, for goodness sake! PS: My father is about the pickiest person ever created and EVEN HE WAS SATISFIED with Leo and his work...how about that?

I'm very pleased with Chad. I can trust him with my home. He takes care of everything on the list and cleans up afterward. I would be happy to recommend him, but on the other hand, he's a good quality handyman and I kind of want to keep him for myself. Thanks for the good work Chad.

Our lawn guy tore his ACL and hasn’t been able to cut our grass for a month. So, I found Rob and his staff on Thumbtack. He and his crew did an excellent job cutting our 3/4 acres of grass and bagging the month’s worth of cut grass. Also, his crew member did a great job cutting under our trees and around our driveway with a weed whacker. They even did the work on a Sunday morning and would not leave until Rob was happy with the results. I am happy that I found R and R.

I did not know this man in any way before hiring him. I say that because I know many people write reviews for friends and family. I am 63 yrs old , a widow and have hired 4 handymen since my husband passed. THIS IS T H E B E S T handyman I have ever hired. I can not imagine that he deserves anything less than 5 stars from anyone. Attention to detail; patience to do a demanding job correctly, never took a break other than 20 minutes for lunch in a 9 HOUR PERIOD. Honest,Christian, responsible, professional, polite and cares 100% about how he does his work. Hiring again this coming week and hope to have him here for needed work as long as I can manage living in my home. Do NOT hesitate to hire Ron. Pay his mileage if you are asking him to drive a long distance, which I did. Time is Money ( P.T. Barnum) and Ron is cheap considering his skill and knowledge I leave 100% honest reviews here.

I was exceptionally pleased with the work that was done for me by Jeremy Watterson. First I had the Seal-4-a-Deal team seal my driveway. That looked so good that I asked Jeremy to do three large handyman projects for me. Within two weeks, all three projects were completed very, very well, and I was thrilled! Not only was the work well done, but Jeremy was pleasant to have around, and he was trustworthy. Thumbs up!

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good handyman?

Finding a good handyman can change your life. Within days, the endless list of insurmountable tasks that were either out of your skill range or impossible to fit into your busy schedule can be completed. If you know you want help but aren’t sure how to hire the right pro, ask these questions to find the right fit:

    • What is your work experience? If you are putting in a tile backsplash, you want someone experienced with the task, not someone who generally does painting and junk removal.
    • How much do you charge? Handymen often charge hourly rates that vary based on the complexity of the task they’re hired to do, as well as flat rates for standard jobs. Be clear about what they’ll charge before you hire them.
      • On that note, discuss payment details. It’s wise not to pay all the money up front, especially for larger projects. You may be able to pay a deposit for materials and pay the remainder upon project completion.
    • How long will the job take you to complete? If the handyman is as busy as you are and a fence repair is going to take months, you should probably find another qualified handyman for the job.

Read client reviews and follow up with references to make sure you’re choosing the right handyman for your projects. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

    What does a handyman do?

A handyman is a skilled laborer who provides basic home repairs. Anyone can call themselves a handyman, although most who do so are skilled with repairs and home projects. Reading reviews is a good way to determine their fitness for your job. The tasks a handyman can perform include assembling furniture, painting interiors and exteriors, repairing fences, repairing broken doors or replacing trim, hanging lights, hooking up appliances, and much more. Handymen may have flat fees for certain services, or charge an hourly rate. Handyman rates are often lower than those of a contractor, as they don’t have the same specialization. Some states have no limit on the work a handyman can perform, while others do. For example, California’s Building and Professions Code section 7048 (small operations) permits handymen to provide work similar to that of a contractor (floor installation, painting, etc.) provided the total cost of labor and materials does not exceed $500. A handyman is a great resource for minor home repairs at a lower cost than a licensed contractor, but for more complex projects, it pays to hire a specialized contractor. Fore more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

    Can a handyman do plumbing?

In some states, a handyman can provide plumbing services, but it may be in your best interest to call a plumber, particularly for issues more major than unclogging a drain or attaching a new sink. Hiring a plumber is important because mishandling your water and gas lines has the potential to do great damage to your home, your family’s health, or even the safety of your neighborhood. A handyman is not legally required to have any training or licensing in plumbing matters, while a licensed plumber has undergone years of education and on-the-job training. In some cases, homeowners insurance won’t cover damage caused by plumbing repair done by an unlicensed handyman.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, most plumbers learn their trade through a four- or five-year apprenticeship with 2,000 hours of paid on-the-job training. They also receive classroom education including “safety, local plumbing codes and regulations, and blueprint reading. They also study mathematics, applied physics, and chemistry. After completing an apprenticeship program, plumbers … are considered to be journey workers, qualifying them to perform duties on their own,” according to the DOL. Licensed plumbers should do continuing education to keep abreast of safety and technology changes. Poor plumbing can lead to sewage backups, a flooded home or even natural gas leaks, so it’s best to leave it in the hands of a specialized professional.

How much does a handyman charge?

The national average rate for handyman jobs is $90-$160. A handyman performs general maintenance and repairs for residential and commercial properties. A handyman may charge a flat fee for standard services that take a predictable amount of time, such as installing a new appliance, as well as an hourly rate for larger projects such as digging out and replacing a rotted fence post. A cost-saving strategy when hiring a handyman is to bundle all the tasks you want them to do into one visit to make the most of any minimum service fee. Hourly rates for a handyman can average $50-$100 per hour. Pricing will depend on skill and experience required for the job, as well as regional labor rates. Here are a few examples of average handyman flat rates.

    • Attic ladder replacement: $150.
    • Toilet replacement: $75.
    • Ceiling fan and light fixtures: $75.
    • Faucet replacement: $125.
    • Garbage disposal: $75.
