I LOVE Rob! He makes drumming fun! My son and I both take lessons with Rob. It is the highlight of our day. He's talented and equally patient.Dec 6, 2019Verified
Drum Lessons (for adults)
I had never before played the drums until my first lesson with Rob. It's been a few months now and I've learned so much and really feel that I'm improving with every lesson. I highly recommend Rob - he's professional, talented and a great teacher!Apr 3, 2017Verified
Drum Lessons (for adults)
Drum lessons have been going really well. Challenging and helpful at the same time. Would highly recommend.Feb 8, 2017Verified
I was taking drum lessons with Rob last year and a little bit the year before that. He always was the person that could teach me things the best. I could understand how he explained things and he would give me pages of exercises to take home so I could practice and make sure I understood the topic. In the time I took lessons with him, I learned more than I did from any drum teacher. We even got into more crazier styles like afro-cuban beats and up-tempo swing. It was always something interesting. I mean it when I say that he was the best teacher ive had :) -Julian PyleNov 6, 2016
Rob is a great teacher. I appreciate his thoroughness, stressing technique, while keeping the lessons fun; I also like learning how to read music, which I did not expect, but am glad it’s part of his approach, method. I highly recommend Rob, as a teacher, and he’s an overall good guy too.Dec 8, 2019Verified
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?$30/half hour, $45/45 minutes, $55/hour for lessons at my home. I add $5-$15 to come to your house, depending on time of day and distance.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? You'll need to have at least sticks and a drum pad to get started. I'll provide some sheet music for the first few lessons, but after that, I'll want you to buy a book. (If you already have some books, we can likely work with what you have. Also, I'm open to teaching only by ear, but I recommend learning to read music.) I'll start out by covering the basics of technique, and I'll make sure you are solid on your 8th-note rock beats. We can go in many directions from there! I like to work on actual music with students, so hopefully you have some songs you want to learn!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a B.Mus. in Jazz Studies (2005) from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. At Oberlin, I studied with renowned jazz drummer Billy Hart and classical percussionist Michael Rosen. From January 2007 to March 2008, I studied Brazilian percussion with Jorge Alabê while drumming for his bateria, Samba Rio. I also studied Brazilian percussion in Rio de Janeiro for three months.
