FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$35/half hour, $50/45 minutes, $65/hour for lessons at my home. I add $5-$20 to come to your house, depending on time of day and distance.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
You'll need to have at least sticks and a drum pad to get started. I'll provide some sheet music for the first few lessons, but after that, I'll want you to buy a book. (If you already have some books, we can likely work with what you have. Also, I'm open to teaching only by ear, but I recommend learning to read music.) I'll start out by covering the basics of technique, and I'll make sure you are solid on your 8th-note rock beats. We can go in many directions from there! I like to work on actual music with students, so hopefully you have some songs you want to learn!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.Mus. in Jazz Studies (2005) from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. At Oberlin, I studied with renowned jazz drummer Billy Hart and classical percussionist Michael Rosen. From January 2007 to March 2008, I studied Brazilian percussion with Jorge Alabê while drumming for his bateria, Samba Rio. I also studied Brazilian percussion in Rio de Janeiro for three months.
