FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I work directly with each customer to create an estimate tailored to their unique project. This includes a breakdown of materials and labor. For handyman work, I usually charge by the hour (plus materials). For larger carpentry and remodeling jobs, I provide quotes based on a daily rate (plus materials). The labor cost boils down to accomplishing the highest quality work in the most efficient time possible. Some projects have options in which the total cost can vary (i.e. cabinetry, as different designs have different associated costs). In such cases, I work directly with the customer to figure out the best price/ outcome balance to fit their individual needs.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For each customer, I learn as much as possible about the project to provide an accurate quote. For smaller projects, I usually request images from the customer to get a sense of the labor. For larger, multi-day work, I do a site visit and talk through the job in-person, so as to both get a sense of what I will need to do to complete the work, as well as to begin building a relationship with my customer. In some situations I am in and out in less than a day. In other cases, there may be more advance communication involved, such as finalizing a design and/ or 3D model, and then scheduling a timeframe to complete the large project. I always leave my work sites clean and tidy.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I moved to Philadelphia from Massachusetts in June of 2019. During my time in MA I spent many years learning from and working for my father on carpentry projects, specialty repairs, and home improvement. During that time I was also employed for over five years as a carpenter and fabricator for the architect Michael Singer.
