Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.
What is the best waterproof flooring for a basement?
There are several great options for waterproof basement flooring. For example, epoxy floors are waterproof but are thicker and sturdier than paint. Make sure the concrete substrate has been prepared for application.
Tile is a designer’s dream, giving you a moisture-resistant surface that’s infinitely customizable. Rubber sheets or tiles are also good waterproof options, particularly for playrooms, workout areas or laundry rooms.
Vinyl tiles and planks imitate wood or other materials very convincingly, provide moisture resistance and last a long time. And sheet vinyl is affordable and a great waterproofing solution for those in need of quick fixes.
Do general contractors offer remote or virtual services?
General contractors perform manual work and typically need to be present to complete their projects. However, if you come across a profile that states the contractor is offering remote services, ask what those services include. You can also ask if they can perform a consultation via video call and if they can do the job while following guidelines from the CDC and local agencies.

It was incredible, professional, and seamless working experience with the Ken Group on my basement refinishing. From the initial conversations with the project lead, Rammy, to the day to day hands on coordination with the contractor Luis, and the efficiency of the workers, I was thrilled with the results, the timeliness, value, and the overall quality. My beat up basement with plywoid floors transformed into a refinished hang out space for our family thanks to The Ken Group. I highly recommend The Ken Group.

These guys were AMAZING!!!
From the punctuality, to the professionalism to the quality of work, to the pricing I have been satisfied from the beginning to end. Everything was organized, the communication was great, and they gave such great ideas for my basement that I didn’t even think of myself. I would recommend them 100% and actually only plan on letting them do work around my house from now on.

Mr. Brown is a liar and fraud. I truly wish that I never reached out to thumbtack for my mother. and made contact with this man. Mr. Brown left dry cement on my mother's basement, and then lied about telling me that he told me that he could not cover the bricks on my mother's basement wall. The conversation never took place. Mr. Brown charged my mother $3300 for an unfinished job, and he promised to come back and finished. My mother has called him several times, and he refused to answer his phone or business phone. The cement is still falling off the walls.
My mother is s Senior citizen, and he took advantage of her. We are taking him to small claims court. He also damaged the wall in the backyard and never mentioned it. Buyer Beware of this man , he will take a Senior citizens money and do a piss poor job.

Locksley of RENEWS HOME LLC is an awesome general contractor. He did an amazing and fantastic job of finishing the 600 sq feet basement of my townhouse from start to finish, including adding a brand new bathroom in basement using Saniflo technology! Besides, he did additional remodeling jobs for my townhouse, all with exceptional quality with small details getting taken care of (as far as I am concerned). He did a great job of moving/shifting an existing wall by 6 inches so as to make room for a bigger refrigerator of prevailing width. Among other things, he refinished my living room's hardwood flooring and replaced the flooring of two second floor bathrooms with new ceramic flooring. And he came up with many creative ideas, recommendations, and solutions in making my townhouse look much nicer. His workmanship, and the way he attends to details, are just amazing to me. And he never complained of anything. Anything I said I wanted to be accomplished, including modifying a few things which he already did due to my change of mind, he did it for me without issue or asking for exorbitant amount of additional charge. The whole process is smooth and pleasant from my perspective. Everything he touched is, as far as I am concerned, magical, reflecting his great workmanship! It is a total eye-popping experience for me. In sum, I am totally impressed with his top-notch skills and attention-to-details workmanship, and I am very satisfactory with all the great jobs he did for me! Last but not least, Locksley is VERY fair in giving me good prices! I gave him a VERY big job, as can be seen from the above. He always stuck to his estimates for each job/phase, which were very competitive. And when I requested him that he do add-on jobs that came up, he didn't use those opportunities (with which I did not really have much leverage and bargain power) to charge me exorbitant prices. Instead, he always gave me fair and competitive prices for all those add-on jobs! From my perspective as a customer, he is honest and trustworthy! In fact, Locksley and I have established the kind of mutual trust relationship over the course of our business dealing that I indeed cherish, which has made things so much easier and efficient over the course of the above-described jobs! To sum up again, I am a happy camper upon seeing the great jobs Locksley did for me! I for sure will call him first to ask for help whenever I have remodeling jobs (big or small)!
