Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: We train for practical applications in martial arts. We train hard to increase mental and physical well being and leave it all on the floor. At the conclusion of each workout you will be tired, but will become faster, stronger, more flexible, and better able to adapt to challenging situations. Unlock your potential. I enjoy the camaraderie of the team aspects of Karate as well as the individual development and self-awareness gained through personal training. I have never been involved in any other activity/sport that so inticately ties into all aspects of life: family, friends, exercise, teamwork, goal setting, accomplishment, etc. Practicing to be your best is the goal, and great fitness, mental aptitude and confidence are the side-effects! Nothing beats it.

As an alumni of Penn State Karate Club- University Park, the Philadelphia Region group brings together all the great things about the original in a more convenient package. Our classes are small, so each student can get individual attention and everyone can work at his or her own pace. This is a class for anyone who wants to kick their fitness into a whole new gear- so if you are really interested in getting into even better shape, this is the place for you. Likewise, if you aren't in great shape, and are looking for a sport you can practice for the rest of your life, this is also a great place. I'm in the latter group, and I can attest that these classes are rigorous, but the senseis will be there to help you every step of the way. Lastly, if you are interested in neither getting or staying in shape, but are feeling uneasy in the city, then we are the place to be for self-defense training. You can learn moves that even the weakest person (myself!) can perform accurately on much stronger people so that when the time comes, you can defend yourself in any situation.

Hi I'm Sensei Hetrick and I am one of the younger instructors at the school. I have known Sensei Heine and Sensei Marmon for several years. You will not find a more dedicated group of instructors at any school. We are all personally invested in the progression of our students and teach Karate in a practical sense to be used as a way of life, whether that means improving physical and mental health or for self defense. I have trained at other schools that charge hundreds of dollars a month and yet the quality of instruction does not measure up to PSKC in Philadelphia. Hope to see you in class soon!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

We have a twice yearly seminar Black Belt at our Parent School in University Park (Penn State), PA. Kyu Ranks (colored belt rank) students are also welcome to attend to meet out head instructors and practice with the club.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Shop around and try out several dojos before choosing one at which to train. There are many great martial arts schools out there, unfortunately there are just as many (if not more) schools that are content to take a lot of your money and teach unrealistic applications.
