I am 59 years old, a wife and a mother of 5 children. For the first time in my life, I had to hire a criminal attorney to defend my youngest son against criminal charges. I found Brian on the internet. He came to my home for our first visit and answered my many questions that I had about the case. He was not over confident which I appreciated, but he was optimistic, which I also appreciated.. He went to see my son in Northampton Prison as promised. I am aware of the vital importance of an attorneys representation, integrity and expertise when fighting for justice in a complex system. Therefore I will be giving reviews throughout the case to offer an honest evaluation of the legal services that my family receives. Why? Because although I did interview Brian and two other attorneys, Brian's reviews influenced my decision to hire him. Honest reviews are important. People trust them!

I have known Lawren Nelson for 27 years. Much of that time has been spent on a personal level but I have also had the pleasure of utlizing Lawren's legal expertise from time to time. During those 27 years, I have come to know a common thread that connects Lawren's personal life to his business life. That connective tissue is that Lawren simply cares about the people that are in his life. In the fast paced "electronic era" that we now live in, Lawren continues to have an "old school" mentality. He is thorough and very organized and if you show Lawren that you respect him take him seriously, he will always respect you and take you seriously. It does not matter how much money a potential client earns or how much money your potential case may possibly earn, he simply cares about the welfare of the people that represents. I'm proud to call him my dear friend.

Ellis helped me through a emotionally difficult legal matter, he made a painful and scary experience much less painful. He was the only attorney I consulted with that did not try to scare me into hiring him. He was straightforward and kind in every interaction we had. He spoke with me at length on the phone and in person before he was hired to handle my case. His assistant Lindsay was very sweet, and helpful as well. He was not the cheapest attorney, but you get what you pay for apparently. Ellis was worth every penny. In my case, he surpassed even his own expectations, maybe luck was on my side. Regardless, Ellis was extremely effective, and this rave review is a 100% genuine. I highly recommend his services.

Mr. Schutz. Is my Attorney for two very disagreeable Tenants-Landlord Cases. I was a total wreck. He came in calm, efficient, extremely knowledgeable and handled.everything. He kept me informed as needed, I asked to be removed from the dealings. He told me what would be done and did it. He DID NOT misinform me about anything. He was totally my Attorney, understanding, reasonable. knowledgeable . I was dealing with a sick parent with no time or patience to deal with an unreasonable situation, Mr. Schutz took it all in stride and handled everything accordingly. I can't begin to tell you how much I respect his professionalism, and client respect. He might refer me on but any legal problems that might come my way I will always call him first. I will always have his card, and he will always be recommended by me as the best Attorney around.

I met with Therese Hogan to discuss a divorce decree. When I met her, she made me feel comfortable and impressed me about how much she knew about family law. She worked with me financially, was very reasonable and I hired her on the spot. She kept me up to date on EVERYTHING and was just great to work with. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER, and I would hire her again for any of my own needs.

My son received a TRO from his ex-girlfriend. She claimed a lot of things he did not do. At first, we seek another top notch criminal defense lawyer recommended by many people, and the other lawyer said for sure we will loss the case. The other lawyer said don’t waste your money. However, my son is innocent against all the allegations made by his ex. We cannot let her get away with this. We must fight the case, even though we are dead broke. We must not let her ruin our son’s reputation and his future. So, we hired Mr. Allison to defend our son. Right away during the initial consultation, we liked him. He was very approachable, knowledgeable, and non-judge mental. We did not feel intimidated which is important. It was very easy to open up and talk about the details of the case. He took his time analyzing the case from all angels, and said the other party did did not have a case. He was right. We spent about nine hours in court, and we won the case. We highly recommend Mr. Albert Allison for anyone needing his service. My family had problems paying everything up front, and he worked with us. His price was also very reasonable. He also thought of ways to save us money, which said a lot about his character, integrity and values. We hope this review has been helpful.

I reached out to Leslie with a tenant/landlord issue as I wanted to ensure I knew my rights before moving forward. We scheduled a phone conference for a few days later. The next day, Leslie reached out to me because she had some free time and we were able to discuss my situation then. I was very impressed with her professionalism and attentiveness to everything I asked about. She provided me with valuable information and suggestions that helped me resolve my concerns with my landlord. I would recommend Leslie to anyone needing solid legal advice.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

  • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
  • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
  • Have an ownership stake in a business
  • Expect someone to contest your will
  • Want to disinherit your spouse
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
