Introduction
Hello! My name is Mark Castellano.
I have been teaching music for almost 30 years and I have been performing music for even longer. My music philosophy is that anyone can learn music with dedication and hard-work.
A little background info on my music experiences: I have been in touring rock bands as a guitarist/bass/keyboard and back up vocalist. I have performed with jazz piano duos/trios/quartets/big bands, and as a guitarist: punk/ska/rock/grunge/blues/jazz/metal/big band/classical and compose original music for all those styles. I have a masters in music education as well as 2 bachelors in music: 1 in choral concentration (voice) the other in composition and jazz piano. I have been studying Partimento: a way of learning composition, counterpoint, and improvisation from early Italian composers such as Scarlatti and Sala. These composers used Partimento to write operas and improvise for the churches of that era. Bach, Hayden, Mozart, and Debussy, to name a few, used Partimento in their composition. I am also studying counterpoint for writing fugues from Sergei Taneyev. Also, studying new Violin methods from of teaching from
D.C. Dounis.
I am certified in orff training in 2 levels and working on Suzuki, Royal Conservatory and certifications in theory from Berkeley.
I was the organist for the Colorado Avalanche NHL till they won the Stanley cup in 2022. When I moved to Philadelphia I passed the torch to my student who is now the current organist.

Mark is truly an exceptional music teacher! He has a masters in music education, plays several instruments, and has taught music at elementary/high schools and privately for many years. Mark makes learning musical instruments fun and my two kids have really enjoyed taking lessons from Mark every week for the past 4 years! Mark teaches my son viola and he teaches my daughter piano and flute. All of the lessons have been virtual and they are as effective as in person lessons we have taken from other instructors in the past. Mark easily taught my daughter how to play the flute over Zoom. In addition to learning proper technique and classical music, Mark finds popular music that my kids are interested in playing. My children love their weekly lessons with Mark and we would recommend Mark 1000%!!!

I have been taking lessons with Mark for at least 7 years now. I have had multiple piano teachers before him, and none compare. Mark is incredibly talented and knows how to teach anyone, at any level. He respects your time and understands that life happens and will never force you to learn anything you don’t want to learn. He’s an incredible teacher and person and I’ve been lucky to spend so many years learning from him!

Mark has been teaching our kids for nearly a decade. He is kind, personable and crafts each lesson so that our kids are engaged and challenged. Marks versatility shines as well. Our kids have had lessons for piano, guitar, drums and clarinet. In-person or virtual, our kids leave each lesson with a smile.

We hired Mark for 4 sessions to help my 5-year-old perform a jazz-based song (girl from Ipanema) in a piano recital. Her previous teacher was struggling to provide her good instructions however I was impressed that in spite of being online, and considering the song is very complex for 5 year old, he was able to effectively communicate and teach her the song. He is very knowledgeable, adept and and gets along very well with kids. I highly recommend him as a music teacher!

We have had Mark as both of my kids piano teacher for years. He has been amazing at building their confidence with his enthusiastic teaching style. He allows students to pick pieces they are interested in, no matter how challenging the songs may initially be. He will guide them to a place where the child can master them. We appreciate his flexibility in scheduling classes every week based on when we are available to do so. He is the piano teacher we have had since we first moved to Colorado 10 years ago, and for good reason.
