FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Lessons start at $100/hour, with shorter lesson options available. Semester-payment, cash-payment, and referral discounts are offered. Travel fees may apply depending on location. Recitals and lecture-recitals are priced individually based on program length, venue, and travel requirements, with discounts available for multiple bookings.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I begin by getting to know the student through a general musicianship and piano assessment. This helps me understand their current level, prior experience, strengths, and areas for growth. I also spend time learning about the student's goals, interests, and reasons for taking lessons: whether they are pursuing professional training, building a solid musical foundation, learning for personal enjoyment, preparing for auditions, or exploring an interest in music. From there, I create a course of study tailored to the individual student. While I am a classically trained pianist and most of my teaching is rooted in the classical tradition, I am happy to incorporate other styles and musical interests when appropriate. Lessons typically include not only piano playing, but also technique, music theory, ear training, music history, listening skills, and effective practice strategies. My goal is to help students develop confidence, ease at the instrument, musical understanding, and the ability to think independently as musicians.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a Young Steinway Artist and hold a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) in Piano Performance from Arizona State University. I also hold a Performer's Diploma from Southern Methodist University, a Master of Music degree from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Vanderbilt University. In addition to my formal education, I have over a decade of teaching experience working with students of all ages and skill levels. My training includes solo piano performance, chamber music, collaborative piano, music theory, music history, pedagogy, and contemporary music. As an active performer, educator, and researcher, I strive to bring both high-level artistic training and practical teaching experience to every lesson.
