FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have a PhD and have been teaching art history and German in colleges off and on for fifteen years. I went through a journalism boot camp, which opened my eyes to new dimensions of writing for the web, promoting pieces through social media and getting paid based on complex formulas. That works fine and I enjoy it. I also enjoy helping to tell someone else's story in a resume or personal statement. I always learn things from writing and editing for others. It's really very satisfying, and I love being able to help out. Working on short contract products is reliable income and gives me lots of flexibility.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Resumes and cover letters Grant proposals for small or startup businesses, for arts and culture, and for academic fellowships Editing 200-page manuscripts for grammar, punctuation, style and continuity of argument
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I loved the last manuscript I edited about diet, health and Mediterranean cuisine. I wrote a three-page cover letter--not advisable for most circumstances-- for a job that I really wanted. I worked on it for three or four days and knew by the end that I really couldn't make it any better. That felt good.
