My boyfriend bought me a lesson with Katie for my birthday. I’d never had a lesson before and had not sang in front of anyone because I feared judgement. I came to her with a lot of trepidation, but she did such a great job of being professional, funny and encouraging that I came back for several lessons before she moved. I trusted her to tell me the truth good or bad and she did so in a way that helped me learn and want to do more. Thank you for giving me that confidence!Sep 20, 2016Leemhuis Voice Studio's reply
Veronica, you earned that confidence! It was MY pleasure to work with you. I miss your beautiful singing and I also want to know how your performance went! I hope you are well.
Katie is an excellent voice teacher! I always felt challenged and encouraged when I left my lessons, something which I highly value! I would recommend Katie as a voice teacher for anyone, no matter what their level of vocal technique. I came to Katie after graduating from college as a music major. She taught me new skills and helped solidify my technique, taking me to the next level. Katie is also fantastic with communication; she responds quickly and is always available for her students. I wish that she wasn't moving because I would continue with her!!Jul 23, 2016Leemhuis Voice Studio's reply
I will miss your beautiful voice, Mari! It's been a joy to work with you.
Katie is absolutely amazing. Having no prior experience to a singing coach she was very welcoming and open-minded toward getting to know me and my goals for lessons with her. She worked with me on scheduling very easily and always was able to be reached. She cares about the voice of her students and truly wants them to not only sing to their full potential now, but keep their voices healthy for the future as well. Overall, I could not be happier with a singing coach and will continue to work with her for years to come!Jan 18, 2016Leemhuis Voice Studio's reply
Carson, I'm so proud of the work you've done! The honor has been all mine - and of COURSE we'll continue to work together for years to come. Thank you!
Katie knows HOW TO TEACH. I didn't know much about singing when I started my vocal lessons with her. I experienced tremendous improvement after only a few months of studying with her. She not only teaches the techniques, but also gives me the confidence to sing. She is passionate about singing and teaching. She is very encouraging. I ENJOY my lessons with her. I strongly recommend Katie as a vocal coach.Aug 11, 2015Leemhuis Voice Studio's reply
Awwww, thanks Katherine! Working with you is such a joy: you love singing so much that you make my job easy! It's my pleasure.
Working with Kathryn is the ideal situation. She is extremely knowledgeable about vocal technique and pedagogy, so she has a wealth of tools and approaches she can employ at any given time when a student is confronted with a vocal obstacle. She is always encouraging, supportive, invested, and very professional. On top of it all, Kathryn has opened up my sound exponentially and in a way that is equally as healthy as it is strong. I would recommend her voice lessons to any of my singing friends or family tenfold.Apr 14, 2015Leemhuis Voice Studio's reply

Lesson rates reflect Katie's teaching background, performance experience, and training. These rates apply for all lessons, including introductory lessons. Feel free to contact her for more information and to determine which lesson length might be the best for you. Payment is due upon completion of each individual lesson. - What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?Bachelor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance from Oberlin College; Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Indiana University; Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance from the University of Cincinnati
- What types of customers have you worked with?Katie has taught private voice lessons for more than ten years. Her students have successfully sung recitals and performances, have auditioned for school and college-level ensembles, and have auditioned for Broadway productions and television talent shows. Prospective students need not have prior training as Katie is experienced in teaching all levels and abilities. While her students range in age, she feels lessons are most effective for children over the age of twelve. In the studio, Katie guides her students toward a healthy and efficient vocal technique, emphasizing breath support, posture, and the elimination of tension. Each lesson begins with breathing and vocal exercises, many of which the student can easily understand and take home for practice. Katie's individualized approach ensures that each student develops a strong foundation in vocal technique and, with a consistent at-home practice routine, shows rapid progress from week to week. Lessons also include work on strengthening music reading skills and ear training. Repertoire selections cover a variety of styles (including opera, musical theater, drama, popular music, and concert work), and Katie is open to each individual's preference. She coaches her more advanced classical students in international phonetic alphabet and foreign language diction (French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Latin). Along the way, Katie helps her students develop confidence and stage presence, encouraging them to be expressive singers and actors. Katie is also a skilled pianist, so there is no need to pay for a lesson accompanist. If you are interested in bringing your own pianist, just ask.
