Completed four (4) jobs in a timely and professional manner. These were small jobs that most contractors would not take on but Weaver did. His rates were very fair.

I had my roof replaced. Ben and his team were wonderful! He talked me through all of the issues with my existing roof, how he would fix everything, and explained all of the costs in the estimate. His estimate was lower than other contractors, and he was doing more than the others had proposed. They arrived on time, did the work in the proposed time and thoroughly cleaned up everything. Very pleased with the work , and will definitely hire him again!

If you are looking for a honest professional technician to hire, All Valley Rooter & Plumbing is the best choice for you. According to my experience I would recommend this contractor because of his loyalty and professionalism. In fact I had a hug clogged toilets (2). After the inspection with camera, Jarred (the plumber) found that all my pipes are clogged because of broken pipes that allowed muds into them. He used the snake to show me the evidence and then suggested to me to replace all pipe. He dogged and I could see the pipes with mud inside. The work was done as planed. We talked about price before he began the work et he is not expensive. He charge me for the right price. After the work done, I wanted to give him a tip because I was very happy, but he declined saying I just pay the good price. I like also he availability and advice.

We hired pinnacle exteriors to replace our roof about 2 months ago. Upon meeting them at our scheduled appointment we were already happy as the previous 3 appointments we had with other contractors either didn't show up or showed up very late. We agreed on the work to be done and a schedule to do it and they did as they said throughout the entire process. The finished product was exactly what we hoped for and we couldn't be happier. We are hoping to do our windows in the next few months with Pinnacle Exteriors.

Hope and Faith did a tile repair job on my shower walls , installed new tub and shower fixtures, cleaned, regrouted and sealed all three walls in my bathroom shower. After excepting their estimate for the job they were ready to start the job three days later. The one day that Eric was running late he even called to let me know he would be about an 1/2 hr late. He gave a 1 year guarantee on the work he did except for the tub and shower fixtures which is covered by the manufacturer.Eric even came back 2 days later after the job was finished because some of the grout had shrunk during the curing process.I will call them back if I ever need to hire a contractor again.Thank you Hope and Faith Flooring and Cabinets .

Firstly, I can't recommend Gary highly enough for any level of remodeling or renovation jobs you may be doing. We recently used Real Deal$ to remodel the kitchen, bathroom and a large portion of the living area in our home and have been delighted with the both the process and the results. Having worked in real estate/property development, I have worked with a number of other contractors and know when I'm working with someone who knows their business and takes genuine pride in the quality of the work they're doing- and that certainly describes Gary and the sub contractors he works with. Although I was pretty sure I wanted to use Real Deal$ based on a friend's recommendation, I wanted to get bids from other renovation contractors for our remodel just to be thorough. When compared with the other bids, I was very impressed with Gary's pricing and the level of detail outlined in his bid. Another big factor for me in choosing the right contractor was the lead time involved for the renovation. Most of the other contractors couldn't work within our time constraints- which was to have all of the remodeling completed in six weeks. We knew it would be tight but Gary absolutely pulled through for us. Both our kitchen and bathroom look amazing, and both are so much more functional than they were before. We were absolutely delighted (and surprised based on experience with other contractors) that the remodel stayed on schedule and within our budget. The remodel took the demolition of the kitchen, bathroom and part of the living space down to the studs and put it all back together again with new plumbing, electrical and heating. Gary helped source all of the new appliances and finishes through his vendors for the entire remodel which can be a handful if you haven't done it before. He provided us with numerous sources for our kitchen cabinetry also. All the work performed throughout the remodel is of the highest standard and we enjoyed working with Gary and all of his sub contractors. I also really appreciated how hard they all worked towards keeping the remodel on schedule and 'WITHIN OUR BUDGET'. Remodeling, or any kind of renovation, (whether big or small) can be very stressful- but having Gary as our contractor really helped alleviate the majority of our concerns and I will definitely be calling him for any future renovation needs we may have. We initially had Tom out to give us an estimate on extending our fence so that we could fit our pool in our backyard and still meet the township requirements. By the time we got done talking, we also hired him to run the electric for our pool AND finish our huge basement. In two weeks, YES 2 weeks, they finished the fence, ran the electric, hauled away stuff from the basement that we didn’t want, AND not only finished our basement, but literally turned it into a basement that my entire family never wants to leave. Tom and his team were professional, responsive, and truly cared about every detail that they put into their work. They worked every single day (including weekends) to make sure that they not only meet their timeline, but exceeded our expectations. I have never had such a positive experience with a contractor and our family is completely IN LOVE with our gorgeous basement! Thank you Tom & team for making our basement dream come true at an extremely competitive price that we could afford. I’m almost certain we’ll be seeing you soon for whatever we decide our next project will be!

Tyler did a great, professional job on our bathroom remodel. His attention to detail was excellent. Tyler kept us informed clearly and frequently. Excellent demeanor. We will be using him again to paint two rooms next week. He has been arguably the best contractor we have used for needed work at our home since we moved to Harrisburg four months ago.

I had several contractors come to see my remodel job. The whole job consisted of a total room rip out and redo including drywall, electric, windows and a floor... but after getting several estimates, I was about to give up. TRM Construction gave me an estimate for the WHOLE job (other contractors only wanted to do just the drywall or just the floor or just the electric or just the windows and then hire sub-contactors for the other parts). The owner, Tim, was there for every step of the job from rip out to finish. The work was finished quickly and the quality is great. Plus, the total cost of the job was much less than having a different contractor (sub-contactors) for each individual step. Couldn't be happier, and I will hire TRM Construction again for my roof and kitchen remodel.

Had Kim Bachman(Phi_Allen ) come and give estimate on 20 windows. She was professional. courteous and polite. Always got back to me on questions within the hour, so responsiveness is great. That's a value I always look for. Because of all the rain this past early summer and mid summer, outside contractors where at an up hill battle getting work done on time. But Phi-Allen always kept me updated on installation date, and honored it. Great Company!!! Jim DellaVecchia. I will add photos soon,

Our renovation project was fairly complex and I was very nervous signing up with contractors. we had very limited time to get the project done. I was happy to sign up with Chris as he was very anxious and very much interested to get the project started. Also, he walked thru detailed breakdown of budget which gave us confidence. It went very well with good pace, ahead of schedule. Chris was readily available and very customer friendly to make sure we were comfortable and happy. Due to unforeseen circumstances, ended slightly later than original schedule towards the end like any other major renovation projects. Chris is very knowledgeable and has tremendous experience, knowhow and displayed excellent skill and workman ship. He is very trustworthy and hardworking. Most of the subcontractors hired by him, did excellent job except the plumbing contractor. Will be glad to offer any reference if needed. Thank you Chris.

I hired Kyle Becker to do exterior painting at my house. I found Mr. Becker to be very professional and an outstanding craftsman. It is my intention to hire Mr. Becker in the future to do other maintenance work around my property. His price was fair and he did very neat, clean work. I am very pleased with this gentleman!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

  • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
  • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
  • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
  • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
  • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.
