FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I quote project rates based on word count and editing level. I use word count instead of the number of pages because the number of pages doesn't tell me if the book is double-spaced (or even triple-spaced!) or if it's written in a teeny-tiny font or a really big one, so I don't know how long it really is. Most writers want to know what editing costs. My services are $0.01 a word, but it does change according to level of editing desired, size, and the turnaround required. I require a percentage up front, but I'm flexible with payment when needed, as long as we agree to a schedule before the job starts.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
All clients go through the same process. I ask for a sample and return that document to you so you can see the types of edits I make. I only work in MS Word with tracked changes, and the author retains full rights to accept or reject any change. If you like the work, we agree on the terms and sign an agreement that includes the payment and editing schedules. I know how hard it is to write a book, and I welcome both new and experienced writers.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm always networking with other editors and learning from the publishers I work for so I can pass that knowledge on to authors through my edits.
