I had to change landscaping services a couple of times before calling Mr. Gunter. I 'interviewed' him to determine if he would provide the specific services I requested in a timely fashion. I also advised him of the reasons I discontinued services of the other landscaping companies I had tried (e.g. poor communication, poor attention to detail etc). After he met with me and surveyed my yard (approx. 45 min) he outlined a service and price list and provided it immediately afterward. Since that time, he has come when scheduled, been meticulous in the care of my yard and answered phone calls, e-mails and texts in a timely fashion. He is willing to do additional work as well including tree pruning, planting, placement of sod etc... I was hesitant to call him at first as I had not seen any advertisements for his company. However, from past experience it appears that the 'other' companies with a greater community presence are 'too big' to match the great service that Buster Gunter delivers.

It all started out as just a new patio install, new to this area I talked to a few people and finally gave the job to Elite. Andrew took his time explaining what and how he was going to proceed. His price was beating all the others and I felt very confident with him and after meeting his team we were off. The pavers withe the color and design are great. We started to talk more about what I had in mind for landscaping around the house and the moving of some small trees. He was very happy to accomadate my needs and came up with a cost savings for me in the long run on the landscaping around the house. He was on the job when he said he would be here and his team always keep the area clean while working. We will be using Elite again in the future as soon as some areas dry out. A pleasure to work with and very professional. Thanks Andrew

We were amazed at how they dropped the large tree with such precision. They cleaned up all the debris and moved it to our burn area for us. We are pleased and highly recommend him. We were also happy how quickly he responded and came out and got the job done.

We bought our house few months ago and since that moment nobody took care of our yard. The backyard most of all was a real disaster! We called David and he completely transformed it. He really did a great job removing all the weeds and dead leaves and trimming all the trees and bushes. He also removed a dead palm. You can see that he loves his job, he gave us many good ideas to improve even more the appearance of our yard and we will call him again for sure to realize them! We recommend him, as well as he is a great worker he is also a really nice person!

John came right out and did a great job trimming, edging, and mowing my new lawn. He reset and staked my new trees that were leaning from the hurricane. I plan to use him on a regular basic for my lawncare.

From the very first contact Vets4U provided excellent service. I requested a quote online and within minutes (it seems) we started talking. (Text/chat). Soon after we met first the first time. They had a professional proposal ready to go. We discussed my vision and my budget. They are very upfront with pricing. Next thing I know they sent examples of plants to get an idea of my style. Once I’m they confirmed my style they sent a complete design!!!! They scheduled a date and the rest was history. You can see the results from the gorgeous pictures. Everything was on time and right on schedule. I needed tree work done and the recommended a company that was just as awesome! Robert accommodated every single one of my adjustments and didn’t stop until everything was perfect! I couldn’t believe it finished right on schedule. Also, I signed up for the regular maintenance. I highly recommend this company!!!! They rock!!!!!

Austin is great to work with, fast and efficient . He promptly removed and cleared my property of multiple trees and brush and installed French drains to handle all of the low lying areas of our back yard and graded everything out nicely. We can now move on to our next project thanks to Austin and his quality job!

Excellent service, communication, and attention to detail. This was a small repair job for my POA that turned into a more time consuming and labor intensive job than expected. The original plan was to re-use existing bollard poles at our gate call box and re-set them in concrete after they were hit. Due to the way the old poles were originally installed this ended up not being possible. The job then became the removal of the old poles and setting materials, the creation of a new, level area to tie into surrounding hard scape, re-installation of new poles and a new concrete pad, secure placement of sensitive wiring, appropriate safety paint and job clean up. This was all done very professionally and looks amazing. I would not hesitate to hire Charles again for any work needed by my POA.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
