Sedacia's personality from start to finish was all you could hope for when planning an event and wanting to look and feel good. She encouraged me in many ways based on the information I gave to her about myself. She made me ultimately learn to love my image. We all have our insecurities but her everyday tips and tricks made me feel confident. She's the best, take her advice. From hair to makeup to how to dress for the occasion, whether it be work or play.

She was very down to earth when doing my make up while also staying professional. It was my first time ever getting my make up done and she made me feel very comfortable and there was not a moment where anything felt uncomfortable for me. As soon as I showed up, she was ready to do my makeup and the environment in which she did my makeup was very clean and relaxing.

Being from out of town and having your daughter, the bride, book with someone she hasn't gone to before made me a nervous wreck. But I have to tell you this was the most fantastic experience I have had with hairdressers.... Beyond professional and THE BEST updo hair artist I have ever seen!!!! Ladies, this was the BEST vendor of the wedding. She is so fabulous with her styling I wish she lived here in Philly. She did the bride, me and my 2 other daughters as well as most of the bridesmaids and they all looked unbelievable!!!! I would rate Pam a 12 out of 10!!!!!!

Terri is an amazing makeup artist, she and her assistant were prompt and fast. I hired her for my cousins' entire bridal party, the bride and 2 other family members including myself. She knows how to make you look like the best you, not a made up someone else. My mom hates makeup but she loved the natural look that Terri have her. I prefer bolder and contouring and for each makeup preference Terri was able to satisfy the bridesmaid. Her personality is funny, calming and easy going which is very helpful during hectic event days. I use many makeup artists while traveling and will use her again and again.

Wow! Words cannot express my makeup session with Natasha. I was in Charlotte for a wedding. She was the only makeup artist who responded on a Sunday. She was fifteen minutes early and the transformation was exceptional. She is a gem.

Jessica was extremely responsive to my request and quickly put me at ease with her kind demeanor. She asked me lots of questions about the event and determined the best makeup and hair for the occasion. From start to finish, she worked her magic and the finished product was gorgeous! I received compliments throughout the day by both friends and random strangers. I'll definitely be using Jessica for my future events.

I worked with Que on a recent photoshoot. She was soley responsible for hair, makeup, and style. She was very professional. She even provided breakfast for us. Her vision was clear and she adjusted well to the weather conditions, which made the other models and myself very comfortable. I would recommend her for any special event.

Alice was the makeup artist for myself and and group of friends for NYE. She was very professional and courteous! She showed up early to set up to ensure she could take time to do everyone’s face exactly how they wanted it! She was very knowledgeable about what products to use for each skin type and shade. She had a variation of deep to fair tones, dry to oily skin types and did an amazing job on all of us! I got so many compliments on my makeup for the night! I can’t wait to book her for my next event!

Taylor is amazing in numerous ways. She has done my makeup for years. I even hired her for multiple weddings I was in to do the bridesmaids and bride's makeup. She is easy to talk to and really listens to what you want. Such a professional!!! She has moved and I have not found anyone who can do my makeup like she did. You will be completely satisfied with her amazing work. I wish I could give 10 stars.

I was searching for a makeup artist for my wedding when I came across Nicole Padgett MUA on her professional Facebook page. I viewed some of her work and even searched for her business Instagram account. She had such an amazing portfolio I HAD to book her! She has already had so much experience with weddings that I knew I could fully trust her for my own. She was so outgoing and brought such a positive atmosphere to my "getting ready" phase at my wedding. ALL my bridesmaids were absolutely gorgeous as she put just as much time into their makeup as my own. They all loved her and even guests commented on our amazing makeovers! I would refer Nicole to ANYONE and EVERYONE!

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What is a hair extension?

A hair extension is a beauty product designed to give you the appearance of longer and/or fuller hair. Hair extensions are made of synthetic material or real human hair and are attached to your natural hair by a variety of techniques such as a weave (sewing), hot fusion, tape-in, cold fusion, bonding, metal clips, micro ring or micro loops, and more. The type of technique you select as well as the quality and volume of the hair you choose all affect cost. Hair extensions can last anywhere from three weeks to six months, depending on the application technique. For example, tape-in extensions may last approximately four weeks, while extensions applied using a hot fusion technique may stay in for up to six months. The hot fusion technique takes longer, costs more, and requires more training on the part of the hair stylist, but the result is more natural-looking extensions that can be washed and heat-styled with confidence.

        What is a mobile hairdresser?

A mobile hairdresser is a cosmetologist trained to cut, color and style hair who can provide hairdressing services at remote locations. Often, mobile hairdressers are hired for events such as weddings, bachelorette parties, prom night, birthdays and other occasions. The hairstylist can come to your location to do your hair, or provide hairstyling for your group.

For events, mobile hairstylists more often provide updos and formal styles than highlights or hair color. Mobile hairdressers bring all the necessary hairstyling tools and products such as lotions and sprays to create your look. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110. Pricing for different services can vary greatly depending on stylist reputation, training and regional rates. For example, haircuts could range between $35 and $150, while hair coloring services could range in price from $65 to $200. Some mobile hairstylists may include the cost of travel in their fees, while other may have it as an added charge, such as 50 cents to $1 for each mile beyond their standard service range.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

        • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
        • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
        • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
        • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
        • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How much should you tip a hairstylist?

A hairstylist can provide you with a cut, color or highlights, or style your hair for an event. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110, but prices can vary greatly depending on the service you receive, where you live, and the salon’s or hairdresser’s reputation. A good rule of thumb is to tip your hairstylist 20 percent of your total bill. In smaller towns, 15 percent may be the norm, but in larger cities 20 percent is generally the baseline. If you frequent a salon where the shampooer, colorist, and hair cutter are all different people, you can divide that 20 percent among those service providers in proportion to the skill level and time required to do their job. Many hairstylists rent a chair from the salon and must pay a monthly rent to the salon owner.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
