Excellent work -- Brent started what I thought would be a 2-day project and finished the painting and drywall repair, plus mounted two mirrors over my sinks, long before the first day was done! He left with a list of multiple "other" projects in mind for another day or week. My list grew, as we talked.. Enjoyed visiting with him and probably slowed up his progress even more. I would recommend Jack of All Trades to anyone. Thanks, Brent.

Chris is highly professional and works extremely hard. He is always on time and steadily works throughout the day, giving you everything you are paying for. He pays attention to detail as if he were carefully working in his own home. He is cheerful and easy to communicate with. I felt as if I had known him for years, yet it has only been days. I am totally impressed and happy with his installation of our wood floors. Every plank lines up perfectly with other floor planks, unlike other installs I've seen where the contractor said, the planks are suppose to be out of alignment to give the floor some character. I say if you want it done right and you can't do it yourself ... call Chris. Thanks Chris for a job well done and for giving our home a face lift we will all enjoy for many, many years. Chris installed the wood floors in our St. Cloud home.

We had moved in our house about 3 years ago and redone the majority of the house ourselves, and while we did ok - we did some pretty shoddy drywall work in some places. We hired Mark to go behind us and fix up our rough spots and he did a great job. He was quick, clean (as much as drywall can be) and inexpensive. While he was here we also had him refinish a front door and he again proved his skills in performing the work quickly and for a great price. If you're looking for quality work done quickly and for a great price, along with some cool stories - Mark is your man. I'd hire him again in a heartbeat.

Al was a pleasure to work with. His attention to detail was above and beyond expectations. Several contractors had turned down the job due to the complexity of staining the top slats, but Al got it done and it looks great! I couldn't be happier with the finished product.

Met with Brian Duke for an estimate. He was extremely knowledgeable, honest, and someone I will work with in the future. Based from his honesty I didn't need work at this time. An honest Contractor means allot! I asked him about future prevention though and what he presented was extremely helpful in something I will do in the future. He was completely reasonable too! I will definitely be recommending him to others as well!

John and his crew were hired to fix and complete a drywall installation (including mud and tape) that a previous company abandoned me on. I must say, John and his crew were great! They took what was a mess left by the other contractor and made it a masterpiece. It is nearly impossible to tell where the seams are in the walls now that they are painted! They took great care in making sure the new floors were protected before starting. Upon leaving they made sure everything was spotless and hauled away all the debris. I will certainly be recommending and using John for my future construction needs!

Mr. Richardson and his team were excellent to work with. A lot of contractors will give you the run around and say they can start this date or have something finished by this date and you end up waiting or not even getting the project finished. That isn’t the case with this company.

Very satisfied with his work. Not only he did an excellent work with the kitchen backslash tile installation, but he also fixed/repaired a couple of other things (oven light, wood floor repair, etc.) . Very easy to communicate with. It didn't take him long to finish, and he was fast and flexible. I strongly recommend him.

ReCom contractor Is a highly professional, and more importantly, trustworthy company. We had interviewed other renovation companies and know the the many horror stories from friends and neighbors about selecting the wrong ones. Amin was always professional, patient and courteous. He showed a high level of responsiveness and respect. We enjoyed working with all of you. We would definitely use this company again and would recommend you and your company without reservation.‎

I have hired House Helpers several times over the past ten years for various projects. Billy and his team have always done excellent work and we have even come to consider him as a family friend! From helping us plan our projects all the way through completion we have found that House Helpers is eager to go above and beyond. It has always been a pleasant experience to work with these guys. You will not find a more honest and reliable contractor anywhere. I recommend that you give them a call no matter the project or plans you have.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
