The quality of the work was great. I would recommend for a quality job at a great price. My only drawback was that the project started later than communicated every day and there were multiple delays to go retrieve forgotten parts of tools. It ended up taking 2.5 days and a follow up a couple days later to complete the tile project. but other than that the quality is great and we are satisfied overall with the project.

Chris was absolutely awesome, and we are really pleased with our new tile bathrooms. He went above and beyond and was very affordable. He was also prompt and on time and arrived when he said that he would. We left him in our home for two days and had no worries with leaving our home in his hands. We will definitely be using Chris in the future for our home repair and renovation needs.

Tony tiled the backsplash in my kitchen. He always arrived exactly when he said he would. He did an excellent job on the tile and I am VERY happy with it! The only thing I feel he could have done a better job on was cleanup when the job had been completed.

Andrew was extremely impressive. He replaced tile in a bathroom which wasn't properly done. He was very punctual, had great knowledge of tile work, and did an extremely good job at a reasonable price. He left the job site in better condition than when he arrived. I would HIGHLY recommend him for any project you have.

Jose recently installed my tile backsplash and helped me with some cabinet work. He was very responsive, and showed up when he said he would. He worked hard on an unexpected situation with my cabinets, and my backsplash turned out really nicely. I would definitely use him again in the future!

We hired D B Handyman Services to install new tile on our fireplace hearth and couldn’t be happier with the results or the experience we had during the project. David is a truly skilled craftsman who not only has pride in his work, but also cares about making his customers happy. Being owners of a home that is over eighty years old, we have had many occasions that required us to carry out the often annoying chore of hiring those with construction skills. We saw the travertine tile installation for which we hired David as more than your typical handyman project, but not quite big enough to hire a contractor. However, as many simple home improvement tasks are in older homes, what looked easy from the outside was not quite as straight-forward once we started preparing the site. Lucky for us, David sensed our concern and handled everything in a thoughtful and reassuring manner that gave us peace of mind so that we could relax and know that the job was going to be done right. Not only does our tile look fantastic, the floor supporting it is now more than adequate to insure that the hearth survives another eighty years. We already have David lined up for another project and are now inspired to move ahead on others that we had given up on because we didn’t believe they could be taken care of without a lot of frustration. Though I am cautious in writing such a positive review, as I want to make sure that he is available to us when we need him, he deserves as much work as he can get and it would be unfair of me not to spread the word. If you are looking for someone who is good at what he does, creative, and fair, you have found him here.

I recently bought new tile flooring for my new home. It is not often I write letters about my service, but when someone, Johny McQuiston of McQuiston Flooring goes above and beyond, I feel it's necessary to share. From the moment I met Johnny, he was extremely kind, professional and really "knew his stuff". Everything was right on target from the start date to finish date. I couldn't be more excited about the end result of my new tiled kitchen floor - it's absolutely beautiful!! Johnny's service, professionalism, knowledge expertise & kindness meant alot to me. A huge THANK YOU goes out to McQuiston Flooring. They were AWESOME!! In closing, I highly recommend McQuiston Flooring for your new flooring project - I give them 10 stars!!!!!! Sincerely, Sarah Pendleton

An excellent, prompt and polite service. After having problems with another larger company, I called Kemp and they came right out that day. My sprinkling system needed additional repairs and they did them too by going and getting parts and installing them that day! Then the owner called me personally the next day to see if I satisfied. Prices were competitive. What more can be done? Leave flowers? Call 'em. I will next time.

Very satisfied with his work. Not only he did an excellent work with the kitchen backslash tile installation, but he also fixed/repaired a couple of other things (oven light, wood floor repair, etc.) . Very easy to communicate with. It didn't take him long to finish, and he was fast and flexible. I strongly recommend him.

Luis Solis of Solis Construction did a fantastic job removing my old fiberglass shower unit, then installing the required wood framing and drywall to prepare the shower enclosure to be tiled perfectly! As you can see by the photos we used Travertine which in this case was a very detailed and intricate design and Luis did and outstanding job taking the necessary time to align each tile and accent trim to look absolutely perfect and professional and did a great job! They also were very flexible when I wanted to make changes to the original design to add overhead lighting and a glass slide track door and they did a great job from beginning to end of project at a very, very reasonable price! I would highly recommend Silos Construction to come out and give you a quote on your tile project or any other project you have in mind as they do great work and get it done quickly and professionally! I would not hesitate to recommend Luis Silos and his family business to anyone considering any home improvement project and also his bid came in well under any other bids I received from larger contracting companies in some cases thousands less and he did an amazing job!!! I am very, very pleased with the work he did and the completed project! You can trust Luis Silos to do a great job for you too and you will consider him your friend when the project is completed! Great job Luis! I am very pleased to write this review for you!! You earned it!!! Robert Potts - Homeowner $490,000 home

It's so nice that I hired recom LLC to help me finish the replacement for the hardwood floor. I was hesitating to decide on the laminated floor or an engineered hardwood floor. Mr. Amin is so patient and professional for answering all of my questions. The installers were so hard working with high efficiency. They finished the project within one day! The most important thing is they offered me the cheapest price! I am so happy to have them!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
