My wife and I were married on August 22nd 2015 and Top Tier was without a doubt the best wedding band we could have ever hoped for. I had over a dozen of our wedding guests come up to me and ask what the name of the band was and where we found them; they also commented that it was the best wedding band they had ever seen. We had an amazing time at the reception and every single guest, from my 92 year old grandfather all the way to the most reserved relatives, were out on the dance floor having fun and dancing. JD also did a great job as the MC of the event, letting everyone know where/when things were occurring and keeping the focus on the bride throughout the evening. I cannot stress how amazing the lead singer's voice was, she literally transformed into every lead singer dependent on the song. I would book this band ASAP because she will be a superstar in no time at all! Also, and perhaps most importantly, JD was incredibly responsive and detail oriented throughout the entire process and made hiring the band probably the easiest part of planning our big day. I have already recommended Top Tier to several friends and will continue to do so without hesitation. BEST WEDDING BAND EVER!!!

John and Julie performed for my wife's 40th birthday party. They were communicative, arrived early for setup and were very professional. They carried a variety of instruments and accompanied with vocals. I'd highly recommend them for your party, event or whatever function you have requiring live music!

I have known and worked with Rebecca for the past decade in a variety of settings from small clubs to large festivals. She and the musicians she surrounds herself with are always first class and never fail to deliver a spectacular set or two for my events. I plan to continue booking her for at least another decade.

Patrick has been a guitar teacher for my two sons (ages 11 & 20) for about 3 years. He has been outstanding. Patrick found out what each of my boys wanted out of guitar lessons before teaching them - did they want to be a musician, did they just want a hobby, did they just want to learn to play, WHAT did they want? He finds out what makes them "tick" in life and he naturally, flawlessly, magically works that into learning to play the guitar in a fun, casual, laid-back way. He's incredibly patient and gives them so much encouragement to expand their ideas and thoughts. He knows when to push and when to back off. My oldest had taught himself some things off of Youtube but was ready to move on to the next level. Patrick was phenomenal in that transition. Patricks talents are endless at whatever level. We are so blessed to have found him.

Campbell Station was the featured band at a House Concert that I hosted. Their harmonies are seamless and Seth is a one man orchestra on the guitar. They are professional and personable. Their original music is rich, polished and captivating.

Emily has been wonderful teaching my son the violin. He had never played an instrument and after 2 lessons he already knows 2 songs and how to read some notes. She is very patient and knowledgeable of the violin. We will definitely hire Emily for future lessons. My son loves it when he knows Emily is coming so he can show her what he has praticed!

I have been interested in learning to play guitar for a long time. My son who is going to be a senior was also interested in picking up the bass guitar in order to take a Rock Band class in school. Being a busy mom, I needed someone who could come to our house as well as be flexible with scheduling lessons. Lonny does both of these and is very reasonable with his fee. My son and I both have played piano and 1 other instrument each so that rhythm and reading notes came easier for us. But Lonny took me pretty far in the first couple of lessons that I was able to play notes on all 6 strings and therefore beautiful classical guitar songs with notes and chords in the treble and bass clefs. He is currently working with my son on syncopation. I'm confident that he has listened to my son's goals and will have him ready to be comfortable playing in Rock Band once school starts.

I've heard this band several times, and it's hands down the most fun swing dance/big band/motown band in Nashville. They manage to get more people on the dance floor than any other band I've seen. I've heard from organizers they're very professional to work with as well. Highly recommend.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

      • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
      • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
      • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
