FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to start with an initial conversation about the goals of the project, as well as any restricting parameters there might be. I've found that when both sides agree on the end result before any work is completed, the whole process runs much more smoothly. I also like to check in at least one time in the middle of the process, to allow for any course corrections needed. Since I work closely with my clients, I only take on a single client at a time. This is part time work for me, and I am not part of a large company. Therefore, I have the flexibility to determine my own work load and to ensure that I give each person the time his or her project deserves. Each client's needs are unique, and no one should have a mass-produced solution dumped on them. My clients matter to me in a way that I don't think they could if I was part of a bigger organization with someone else setting the rules. My promise to you is that I will focus all of my attention on your needs until the project is complete and you are satisfied. If not, I will refund your money.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's degree in public relations as well as a master's degree in emergency management. Both areas of study have a heavy focus on crafting clear communication messages for a variety of audiences. My public relations background also has given me experience in marketing and image management. During my time in school, I focused heavily on crisis communication. Today, I continue to keep up with current trends in social media, risk communication, and interpersonal communication techniques. I also have taken several professional development courses on these subjects, including getting my Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication certification from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as Public Information Officer courses from FEMA. Copies of my diplomas and certificates are available upon request.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I've done a variety of work in public relations, image management, and editing. I have written and edited undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level projects, created public relations campaigns for industries ranging from outdoors equipment to emergency management, and assisted with resumes and cover letters in fields as diverse as entomology, healthcare, and information technology. I firmly believe that every project requires a unique approach, and deserves a solution customized to what they need, not what I did for the last person in that field.
