Mark was very professional he came out on the spare of a minute to give me a quote late in the evening after I got home from work. I was very satisfied with the rate and hired him on the spot. He showed up as planned and worked the entire morning building a fence for me. His workmanship was excellent and I would highly recommend him! Janice B.

The good: David Munns came to our home to review a large job. He quoted a very reasonable price. He showed up daily around 8-9 and worked till about 3-4 pm. David assured us he could get the job done right. We made sure he knew that we would supply anything he needed to get it done. He was also able to purchase paint at a great price. The Bad: David Munns suggested that we use flat paint instead of shiny because if we didnt he said that we would see every flaw in the paint. But we wanted eggshell because the paint was for kitchen and dining area and you can't wipe down flat paint if food spatter gets on it. We went with his recommendation at first before we understood this about dining areas. The flat paint did not look good though and the colors didn't look the same as the samples when applied to the walls. We purchased more paint for the second coat in eggshell. However after he painted the first coat we noticed that he had got paint all over the cabinets and our white trim, He also had assured us that he could paint over the wallpaper, had done it plenty of times before and it would look alright. He said that he and would peel back, sand and mudd the edges before painting them but he neglected to do so and it was looking pretty bad. All around our trim and the edges of the walls look terrible with the flat flaw covering paint. Also noted but not even mentioned to him cause we were trying to be easy going, was nail holes not filled in or sanded down just painted over leaving rough places and holes. Things we had agreed to be done before the job started. The terrible: I would have worked with all this but when we pointed this out and asked him about these things, he assured us he would fix it, we accepted that from him but then instead, he took offense to our having questioned his work and left without telling us that he was going. We were astonished that he would do that and it seemed very unreasonable to get so upset. After all we were paying him a lot of money for the job and just wanted to make sure it was done appropriately. He left more work to be done than when he started. David seemed personable but he didn't explain things well and took it personal when we asked him questions even though we assured him we just wanted to be on the same page and make sure the final result came out right. He seemed to want to cut corners instead of doing it right and as agreed. He blamed the builders any time we pointed out anow area saying that they had done a poor job when building our home. After Mr. Munns suprised us by leaving suddenly I tried to call and messaged him asking him to come back and tried to work things out but he didn't respond. We are very dissapointed and feel that Mr. Munns was unprofessional in his dealings with us just quitting like that. We thought we were fair with him and we also spoke calmly and nicely to him when asking him questions and pointing out what we wanted fixed. We paid a deposit and now have to dispute those charges minus paint costs and have other painters come in to finish the job and fix our cabinets. I would not recommend Liberty Painting to anyone. I didn't want to have to leave a bad review I actually hate this and wish Mr. Munns would have just stuck it out and tried to talk to us. We like to think we are on the same team and that's how it could have been. I hope he was just having a bad day but unfortunately that left us in a poor position that is gonna cost us to fix it.

I would recommend Walton's Tree and Crane service to anyone seeking tree/ stump removal. Mr. Walton came out quickly within a timely manner to give me a free quote for the work I needed done. It was obvious that Mr. Walton was knowledgeable about the work I needed. He offered me several options and was very patient in explaining what each option would entail and cost. Mr. Walton's professionalism, level of respect and courtesy throughout this process was appreciated. I am pleased with the prompt work and clean up that was done!

Kenny Keele and his crew did an excellent job replacing my kitchen cabinets, counter tops and back splash. They removed my fur downs and moved an air vent to make room for taller cabinets. They replaced the lighting and upgraded my electrical outlets. They were respectful of my home and schedule and were overall very pleasant to work with. I look forward to working with them in the future and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking to renovate their kitchen.

Great Guy. Great Attitude. Very Professional. No Hesitation. Ready to Work. Pulled in Contacts Instantly!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even though I placed my deck build activities on hold, I really admired this guy’s customer service, attitude AND availability. TOP. KNOTCH. REPLY. Attention to #Detail and very #Attentive towards the “customers #Needs and #Desires.” One of his contacts showed up bright and early AND ON TIME Saturday morning (in the blistering COLD – 8:00 a.m. CST), took a look at my project and gave me a quote. They were ready to build THAT. DAY.; when I told him that I wanted to wait possibly until next Spring, the young man said ok and didn’t give me any sort of fuss for having to make the trip out and quote my potential job that early and in the freezing C O L D!! I really admired that and was blown away when he requested that I keep his number and be sure and give him a call when I’m ready to build!! Being in business as long as I have been I can instantly gain some sort of idea on both the quality of someone’s ‘eventual work’ and their ‘work ethic’ in general just by the way that they handle any pending deal on the ‘front end…’ These young men have been trained well and it shows… Mr. Perez (and his contacts) were above and beyond ready to #WORK and he sent me folk who knew how to deal and handle transactions… I’m #Grateful to have crossed paths with these “Latin Brothas!!” They are all definitely in my contact book now!!!!!!!!!!!!! #RealTalk. #OutstandingWorkEthic!! #ExcellentAttentionToDetail. #TheyAlmostMadeMeBuy!! #AndIStillMight. #ItsWarmToday. LOL :_) Folk Who Get Up Super Early In tha Morning And Start Moving Towards Money Really Gain My Respect. My Ultimate Respect. They also often times will W I N!!!!!!!!!!!!! #WIN. “Mr. D.I.Y.” Will G. I hired Alan to mow my lawn and remove trees/bushes that were overgrown around my pond area. Alan and his crew exceeded my expectations. Alan was very meticulous with the care of my property and kept me informed of every detail along the way (including aggressive snakes he encountered near the pond). Alan is a very hard worker with outstanding work ethic. I live on a 4 acre property and can now enjoy more of my property. I am able to view the pond from my kitchen window, which I was unable to see due to the overgrown bushes/trees. I am more than satisfied with Alan's work and would recommend him for your landscape needs.

If you live in the Memphis area and are looking for a carpenter who does outstanding work for a reasonable price, I would highly recommend Stephen Miller with Carpenter Works in Germantown. He is an honest, dependable professional who has a great attitude and truly cares for his customers. My husband and I were leaving for vacation and trusted him with the key to our house to finish the job. He did a fabulous job building my bookcase and I couldn't be happier.

Mr Belleau did an exceedingly professional job, which included emailing a professional estimate, invoice , and warranty. Each job was done quickly and beautifully. Jobs included designing and building laundry room shelves, and putting shelves in a closet. He also repaired drywall and a popcorn ceiling, as well as fixing bathroom fixtures and unclogging a tub that had been unused for years. Mr. Belleau was friendly, quick, and respectful of our home. We would call for his services again!

Tim Jameson has done work for me for several years. One job was painting my house including repairing rotten wood and painting the outside of my house and workshop building. He also did a bathroom project for me which included stripping wallpaper and repair walls and replaced some plumbing and removal of carpet and installation of tile on the floor. He also painted a paneled bedroom walls and trim. He has an excellent eye for color and has been very helpful in determining paint colors for me. He is a perfectionist and pays attention to detail. I will continue to use him for anything I need done around my house. He has a outgoing personality and is a joy to work with.

I am so thankful for Brian and the incredible job he did with building my handicap ramp at my house. First of all, when I contacted Brian I had 2 weeks to have it built before I was being discharged from the Nursing Home where I was doing Rehab Therapy. My discharge date had been moved up a month, which threw me into a panic when I found out my brother was not able to get it built in the time I needed it. I had to have a handicap ramp due to not being able to climb any steps. I was given Brian's name and phone number from a mutual friend and contacted him right away, hoping he would be able to help me out. Brian agreed to it and immediately came out to the house, took measurements and proceed to get the necessary materials needed for building the ramp. He researched and clarified the specifications required for building a handicap ramp so that it met all the necessary requirements. He had less than 2 weeks to get it built and he did it. It is beautiful and I am so Thankful for the wonderful craftsmanship that he put into it, rounding the corners off, sanding all the railings, adding the decorative pieces to give it that special touch and constructing it so that I have no fear what so ever of using it. I am so pleased the quality of work that Brian did on my ramp and would have him build me anything in the future, which will probably be a deck this next spring. I have had more compliments from neighbors, friends and family on how wonderful it looks and they now can relax and not worry about me getting in and out of my house. I would not change one single thing regarding this ramp, it is PERFECT!! Brian is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet with a wonderful, positive and happy personality and takes great pride in his work and it shows. It was a joy to do business with Brian and I would highly recommend him to anyone that wants excellent quality work and craftmanship. Thank you again Brian for such a fantastic job on my ramp and giving me the peace of mind to not worry about the safety of getting in and out of my house.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

      Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
