What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I wouldn't describe the prices as complicated, but they can vary, based on the type of event, the dater or time it takes place, the location, the number of hours, and any extras the customer may add on. We are considered a low to moderately priced DJ service.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes, by networking with other DJ's, reading industry publications, and keeping in touch with trends in the wedding industry.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Some guys I knew started a DJ business here in town, and hired me as salesperson and manager/trainer. I did that for nearly ten years, then became an owner.
What types of customers have you worked with?
DJ work is pretty straightforward. We play music the customers pick, make announcements and interact, set up and provide equipment, and bring energy and FUN to the event, with professionalism.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
People are always willing to let us know when they're happy with what we do. That's the beauty of it. We get to make people happy, and get their immediate feedback every time. I did an reception not long ago for the daughter of a high school classmate, and it was a big event, with lots of planning involved. It was a home run, everyone had a great time, and it was great seeing the satisfaction from someone who I go way back with. But honestly, I walk out of every event feeling like that.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
All DJ's have many things in common. We all have sound equipment, music, lights, etc. - it's the impression the guys are able to make, and their presentability that matters. Ask yourself, is this the guy I want to conduct things that night? That's where we come in. We are the guys you'd want in front of your party, handling things.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I just want more customers to know that we exist, and be able to find us. I am so confident in what we do, how we do it, and the value we offer, that if a customer can find us, I think they'll choose us, and I know we can make them happy.
