JD and Top Tier were awesome! Excellent musicians, incredibly easy to work with, very responsive, and even allowed me (groom) to play guitar with them on a few songs. Everyone at our wedding couldn't stop talking about how great and how much fun the band was! A quote from one of our guests, "Most rock star wedding ever!" The band created a lively atmosphere that encouraged everybody to cut loose and dance. JD and crew were engaging and entertaining between songs too. In comparison to some other bands, we felt like we got a steal! Some were charging upwards of $5k!!! We didn't pay anywhere near that with Top Tier and we got our money's worth and then some. Word of advice - splurge for the sax player. He was incredible and the sax took the sound to a whole different level! Bottom line: these guys (and gal) were just flat out fun. We could not have been more happy with Top Tier! Thanks again!

Mikei was absolutely fantastic! Very accommodating to our wedding needs and wants, the band had everyone on the dance floor the whole time. Our biggest day in our lives depended on their professionalism, delacasy, competence, and skill. Let me tell you... the slayed those songs! Their YouTube videos don't do them justice to their actual skill playing live. Extremely impressed. Thank you Mikei and band. Highly recommend. 10/10 would use services again.

I can't express how much I appreciate Liam and his teaching style! He made it so easy for my child to learn the basics, and then build on those skills. He was so patient with my son, and pushed him to his full potential while still being SO kind! He also has a great taste in music and introduced my son to the classics instead of the hip hop he's normally listening to! ;-)

Great teacher. He's the real deal as a performer and player and can get to the heart of what you need to learn whatever stage you're at. As far as rocking blues guitar, Tony's the man. Great guy!

It was such a pleasure to have Emily and the rest of Blunt Honey be part of our special day. The band members were the personification of music in their energy and performance, radiating a natural warmth as they weaved their tapestry of sound. These musicians are wonderful people with tremendous talent.

I've used Rick Wilkerson and his band for two events and have been happy with their performance, professionalism, and energy at both events. Their music style was appropriate for both events and Rick is very responsive to questions and on the fly requests. He's an easy going guy who brings the right vibe to any event. I look forward to working with me more!

I have been interested in learning to play guitar for a long time. My son who is going to be a senior was also interested in picking up the bass guitar in order to take a Rock Band class in school. Being a busy mom, I needed someone who could come to our house as well as be flexible with scheduling lessons. Lonny does both of these and is very reasonable with his fee. My son and I both have played piano and 1 other instrument each so that rhythm and reading notes came easier for us. But Lonny took me pretty far in the first couple of lessons that I was able to play notes on all 6 strings and therefore beautiful classical guitar songs with notes and chords in the treble and bass clefs. He is currently working with my son on syncopation. I'm confident that he has listened to my son's goals and will have him ready to be comfortable playing in Rock Band once school starts.

We have used Aly on several occasions, providing entertainment for our company events. Not only is she an outstanding singer, but her ability to get the crowd engaged (singing along and dancing) is impressive. Aly has the ability to set the mood for whatever the occassion may call for. From touching ballads, fun dance tunes, to her own original music...Aly is crowd favorite...a true performer.

I've heard this band several times, and it's hands down the most fun swing dance/big band/motown band in Nashville. They manage to get more people on the dance floor than any other band I've seen. I've heard from organizers they're very professional to work with as well. Highly recommend.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
